San Diego, Convention Center, July 23 2025 – This year’s San Diego Comic-Con proved once again that when it comes to delivering unforgettable fan experiences, Mattel knows how to command attention. Positioned among the most visited stands of the show floor, the Mattel Jurassic World booth became an unmissable stop for collectors, film buffs, and dinosaur enthusiasts alike. The crown jewel of the display was, without doubt, the Jurassic World Hammond Collection T. Rex Convention Crasher™ Set, a brilliantly conceived exclusive priced at $85 that brought the ferocity of “Buck” the T. Rex—straight from The Lost World: Jurassic Park—into the heart of the convention itself. More than just a highly detailed collectible, this set doubled as a love letter to Comic-Con culture, complete with a meticulously designed packaging sleeve modeled after the San Diego Convention Center façade, “damaged” as though the mighty predator had just smashed through it. Draped across the diorama was a tongue-in-cheek “When Fans Ruled the Earth” banner, a sly nod to the film’s original tagline and a playful wink to the convention crowd who have long embraced dinosaurs as pop-culture royalty.
What made this year’s exclusive truly special was the layered creativity behind it. In addition to the hyper-articulated and screen-accurate “Buck” figure, the set included one of the most charming Easter eggs to ever grace a Comic-Con exclusive: a human cosplayer figure dressed in an inflatable T. Rex suit, complete with a swappable male or female face. This cosplayer wasn’t just for show—they carried a tiny SDCC swag bag, which, in a delightful meta twist, contained a miniature replica of the very same exclusive set, perfectly scaled down. The detail work was exceptional, from the paint applications on the dinosaur to the textured “inflatable” look of the costume, and the packaging itself doubled as a display piece worthy of any collector’s shelf. It was this kind of con-specific humor and self-awareness—something that both celebrates and lightly teases the culture—that made the Convention Crasher set stand out not only as a must-buy, but as one of the most talked-about exclusives of SDCC 2025.
The booth’s appeal, however, went beyond just showcasing a single product. Over the course of the weekend, Mattel offered fans an immersive journey into the world of Jurassic toys, with large-scale dioramas, life-size dino head sculpts for photo ops, and interactive play areas where attendees could handle the latest additions to the Hammond Collection and the broader Jurassic World line. On July 25 at 1:45 PM PDT, the booth hosted the special panel “Celebrating the Eras: A Crash Course in Jurassic World Toy Design,” where members of the Mattel Jurassic World Design Team, including Rafael Bencosme, Greg Murphy, and Chandra Hicks, shared behind-the-scenes insights into the design process. Fans were treated to sneak peeks at unreleased figures tied to Jurassic World Rebirth, trivia sessions with surprise prizes, and candid stories about the challenges of blending film accuracy with playability—a reminder that toy design is as much an art as it is a science.
Logistically, Mattel made sure fans could get their hands on the exclusives without missing out on other convention happenings. The Jurassic World Hammond Collection T. Rex Convention Crasher™ Set was available at Booth 2945, with the broader display and interactive elements housed at Booth 3029. For those unable to attend in person—or simply unwilling to brave the long lines snaking through the convention floor—Mattel also launched the set online via MattelCreations.com on July 24 at 9 AM PT, a move that was met with both relief from distant collectors and mild panic as stock sold out quickly.
The Mattel Jurassic World booth at SDCC 2025 proved to be the perfect mix of fan service, collector appeal, and creative showmanship. It delivered not only a product that fans will treasure for years, but an experience steeped in the shared culture of Comic-Con itself—where exclusives aren’t just about owning a toy, but about owning a piece of the event’s history. With “Buck” T. Rex leading the charge—quite literally crashing the convention—Mattel reminded everyone why, at least for a few magical days each summer, dinosaurs once again rule the Earth.
