Festivals - Fantasia 2020: Hunted World Premiere

By Mulder, 09 august 2020

Hunted is a hybrid work of art, as much a survival film, with touches of snuff, as it could be a societal drama in the body of a classic horror film. From an archaic folk tale of light and shadow told over a campfire in a ritualistic way, to the pathetically current circus of heteronormativity, this demented story depicts society at war, stereotypical male-female relationships transformed with a great primitive cry into rabid savages. Vincent Paronnaud (co-director of Persepolis, winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes and nominated for an Oscar), aka Winshluss for comic book lovers (Monsieur Feraille, Pinocchio), is no stranger to satire, twisted fairy tales and ambiguous characters. Paronnaud is a maverick; there is no room for the moralistic hypocrisy of "good versus evil" in him. In his first solo feature film, he carries a humanist fable, full of symbolism, as animal as it is mystical. - Celia Pouzet

Synopsis:
The company of wolves is preferable to the company of men." Once upon a time, Woman (Lucie Debay) met Man (Arieh Worthalter). Woman dances with Man. Man kisses Woman. Man forces Woman. Woman runs away from Man. Man hunts Woman. Nothing new in that story! And yet... The story of "revenge" re-recited a thousand times takes a surprising turn in Hunted. The codes are deviated, reincarnated. The Big Bad psycho-Wolf, incarnation of patriarchy, and his stupid sidekick embark on a wild hunt, but in the labyrinth of trees protecting Mother Nature, Little Red Riding Hood, now a warrior, has killer techniques and won't surrender so easily.
