Time for another recap of the week in SDCC news.
Comic-Con announced their annual Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing. This years winners are Bill Messner-Loebs and Jack Kirby (Jack Kirby also appears on the cover of the SDCC souvenir book, and is also being named as a Disney Legend during D23 story on D23 here, More information on the Bill Finger Award here
In addition, SDCC also announced their International Independent Film Festival Preliminary Schedule and the Judges for this years festival. The judges are stunt performer/actress Tamiko Brownlee, filmmaker Steve Desmond (whose 2016 entry, Monsters, won the Best Horror film category and the Judges’ Choice award), and actor/writer Ted Raimi. Comic-Con announced their annual Comic Creator Connection. Giving the opportunity for artists and writers can network with 2 different sessions, Friday, July 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Sunday, July 23, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. More info here.
Local Theatre group Turning Tydes Theatre announced a couple of different live shows they will be doing during SDCC at the The Geoffrey Off Broadway (part of the Spreckles where Conan hosts his annual shows). They will be performing Thurs-Sun of SDCC, titled Into the Walker Woods and Phantom of the Empire. More info on their Facebook page here.
Here are some of the exclusives announced this week that caught our eye.
Factory Entertainment unveiled a few of their Comic-Con exclusives, among them were a Back To The Future - 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Convention Exclusive Print for $25, Game Of Thrones - Dragon Plush Box Set 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Convention Exclusive ($35) , and Game Of Thrones - Hand Of The Queen Bottle Opener 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Convention Exclusive ($20). Next up for exclusives are Monogram International who announced 2 exclusives for their booth this week (#3645). Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts 2-Mug Set ($30) and a Beetlejuice 3-Piece Horror Key Ring Set ($25). You can see all their exclusives on their webpage here.
Funko announced 3 different waves of SDCC exclusives this week. A DC themed wave, a TV themed wave, and a wave with figures from Cartoons. You can see all the waves they’ve announced so far here.
