SDCC 2026 Star Trek Universe Celebrates 60 Years of Hope, Exploration and Legacy
Saturday 25 July, 5:00 PM PT San Diego Convention Center, Hall H 2026-07-25
Hall H hosted one of the defining events of San Diego Comic-Con 2026 as fans gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. The presentation balanced nostalgia with exciting announcements, bringing together creative talent and performers from across multiple generations. The atmosphere reflected the unique relationship between the franchise and its audience, many of whom have followed the adventures of Starfleet for decades while others discovered the universe through the newest streaming series.
The celebration reminded attendees that Star Trek has never simply been a science-fiction property. Since its debut in 1966, it has served as a platform for stories about diplomacy, exploration, scientific curiosity and hope. Those themes remained central throughout the panel, with speakers repeatedly acknowledging the enduring influence of Gene Roddenberry's vision.

Strange New Worlds Takes Center Stage
The first portion of the panel focused on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds with appearances by Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong, Melissa Navia, Celia Rose Gooding and Paul Wesley alongside executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers and Alex Kurtzman.
An exclusive Season 4 trailer showcased cinematic visuals, classic exploration, humor and emotional character moments. The producers explained that the already announced fifth season will conclude the series with a planned ending rather than an abrupt finish, allowing Captain Pike's story to naturally connect with established Star Trek continuity. The cast also reflected on the collaborative environment behind the production and on the challenge of honoring iconic characters while giving them fresh emotional depth for modern audiences.

Celebrating Six Decades of Star Trek
The celebration then broadened into a franchise-wide retrospective as Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry welcomed an impressive group of actors representing almost every era of Star Trek. Among them were George Takei, Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, Dominic Keating, Cirroc Lofton, Doug Jones, Michelle Hurd, Jerry O'Connell, Christina Chong and Karim Diané.
Before the discussion began, attendees watched a moving anniversary film narrated by Sonequa Martin-Green that revisited the franchise's history from The Original Series through Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy and Strange New Worlds. The montage emphasized optimism, exploration and the continuing evolution of Star Trek.

Voices from Every Generation
George Takei received one of the event's loudest ovations and reflected on the philosophy of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations, explaining that Star Trek encourages audiences to embrace differences rather than fear them. Michael Dorn described how surprising it remains that The Next Generation became the foundation for decades of additional storytelling.
Doug Jones shared how joining Discovery fulfilled a lifelong dream, while Jerry O'Connell recalled being welcomed into Starfleet by Wil Wheaton. Karim Diané recounted meeting a fan who had tattooed his character, demonstrating the passion of the global Star Trek community. Michelle Hurd delivered one of the panel's most emotional moments by discussing the lasting inspiration of Nichelle Nichols and the original multicultural bridge crew.

Legacy and Looking Ahead
The panel concluded by confirming that additional anniversary celebrations are planned throughout the year. Although the immediate focus remains on Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy, the franchise continues to expand across television, publishing and interactive media.
Sixty years after its debut, Star Trek remains a rare cultural phenomenon capable of inspiring scientists, engineers, writers and filmmakers while entertaining audiences worldwide. The Hall H presentation demonstrated that the optimism envisioned by Gene Roddenberry still resonates strongly, ensuring that the journey continues for future generations of fans.
