"Nothing in the future that I see can replace the shared experience of cinema" - Adam Fogelson, Vice President of Lionsgate Motion Picture
This year our media covered the Cinemacon convention in Las Vegas at Cinemacon for the first time since its inception. Since its inception in 2011, this global convention that brings together exhibitors, film industry professionals and the international press allows Hollywood studios such as Son Pictures, Warner Bros, The Walt Disney Company, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures and Lionsgate to present their upcoming line-up. After the memorable presentation of the Sony Pictures studio, we wondered if the other presentations were going to be as memorable and the one of Lionsgate left us hungry because apart from the screening of the excellent comedy joy Ride and the first trailer of The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes not much was shown. With upcoming films like The Blackening (June 16), Joy Ride (July 7), The Expendables 4 (September 22), Ordinary Angels (October 13) and a sequel to Saw (October 27) there was plenty to keep the Coliseum audience happy this afternoon.
The panel began with a speech by Lionsgate Motion Picture Vice President Adam Fogelson who reaffirmed that neither the advent of television, nor the advent of videotapes, nor the advent of DVDs, nor the advent of streaming platforms, nor a global pandemic can stop movie theaters. He also added that as long as we do our part to satisfy the customers, we can all prosper by addressing the exhibitors present at the coliseum. He also said that theaters cannot thrive on blockbuster movies alone.
Adam Fogelson presented the upcoming Lionsgate film releases with only posters of the films except for the trailer of the new Hunger games movie saga. The upcoming movies in 2023 are About My Father (May 26), The Blackening (June 16), Joy Ride (July 7), White Bird: A Wonder Story (August 18), The Expendables 4 (September 22), Ordinary Angels (October 13), a sequel to Saw (October 27) and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (November 17) (U.S. release dates). Please note that these films will be distributed in France by Metropolitan Filmexport. We would like to thank them for presenting their films before their release.
The presentation of the film Joy Ride was certainly the only highlight of this presentation with the presence on stage of producer Seth Rogen, the director and the main cast. Director Adele Lim mentioned that she had just worked on Raya and the Last Dragon, a Disney animated film, and all she wanted to do was tell dick jokes and mentioned that she was friends with two of the actresses on stage there, and sometimes they would go to dinner together. She also said that she had not seen women with faces like theirs telling dick jokes and that she was very proud of this performance. As for Seth Rogen, he said that he found the tone of the film to be authentic and that he likes to make films that viewers can relate to and will laugh at for decades to come
