The Minions were honored today in a special ceremony in Hollywood at the Chinese Theater. Steve Carell, Danny Trejo and Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri joined Kevin, Stuart, Bob and Otto at their hand and footprint ceremony to celebrate Minions: The Rise Of Gru.

Minions: The Rise of Gru is a 2022 American computer-animated action comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It is the sequel to the spin-off prequel Minions (2015) and the fifth entry overall in the Despicable Me franchise. Directed by Kyle Balda, with Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val as co-directors, the film sees the return of Steve Carell as Gru, and Pierre Coffin as the Minions, along with Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin. Minions: The Rise of Gru premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 13, 2022, and is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on July 1, 2022, by Universal Pictures.

In January 2017, Universal Pictures and Illumination announced the sequel to their animated film, Minions. The film began production in July 2017, with Brad Ableson added as a co-director. In May 2019, the film's title was revealed as Minions: The Rise of Gru. In December 2019, it was announced that Pierre Coffin and Steve Carell would be reprising their roles as the Minions and Gru, respectively. Production of the film shifted to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, following the temporary closure of Illumination Mac Guff. The soundtrack album for the film is set to be released on July 1, 2022, through Decca Records and Verve Label Group. The Jack Antonoff-produced soundtrack consists of various contemporary artists covering famous funk, pop, and soul hits of the 1970s. "Turn Up the Sunshine" by Diana Ross and Tame Impala was released as the album's lead single on May 20, 2022. It was followed by Kali Uchis's cover of "Desafinado" and St. Vincent's cover of "Funkytown". Minions: The Rise of Gru premiered on June 13, 2022, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The film was originally scheduled for general release on July 3, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and their incomplete status with Illumination Mac Guff's temporary closure in response to that event, it was pushed back to July 2, 2021, and later to July 1, 2022. Minions: The Rise of Gru is scheduled to stream on NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service within four months of its theatrical release, as part of an 18-month deal. The film would then move to Netflix for 10 months, before returning to Peacock for the last four months.

Synopsis :
Growing up in the suburbs in the midst of the 70's with bell-bottom jeans and blooming hair, Gru devises a devious plan to get into a famous group of super villains known as the Vicious 6, of which he is the biggest fan. He is assisted in his task by the Minions, his rambunctious and loyal little companions. With the help of Kevin, Stuart, Bob and Otto - a new Minion with beautiful braces and a desperate need to please - they work together to build their first lair, test their first weapons, and launch their first mission. When the Vicious 6 sack their leader, the legendary "Wild Knuckles", Gru auditions to join the team. The interview goes awry, to say the least, and suddenly runs out of steam when Gru proves his superiority and suddenly finds himself their archenemy. Forced to flee, he has no choice but to turn to "Wild Knuckles" himself to find a solution, an encounter that will allow him to discover that even super villains sometimes need friends.
