This year's virtual edition of the Austin Film Festival will have allowed us to discover several independent films revealing the first works of many directors but also a selection of equally successful documentaries. The new documentary film written and directed by Phil Wall (The Standard (2020)) proves to be exciting by showing us today's small-town America and how some are carried by faith to embark on a long road trip to promote the book of a deceased author.
When young writer Carol Wall's life was tragically interrupted just before the release of her critically acclaimed first book, her husband Dick Wall set out to promote it in various American cities. Assuming the role of spokesperson and evangelist for his late wife's work, Dick began a difficult journey across the country to promote the book in his place. With the help of his son, writer and director Phil Wall, The Book Keepers is a compelling story that explores themes such as family and grief.
The Book Keepers is not just a remarkable story about one man's journey through dedication, grief, conflict and love for his late wife, whose last book resonates as a true testament, but more importantly, a true advocacy for the defense and importance of books in today's society.
The inspired staging of The Book Keepers makes us follow the itinerancy of these two men who put all their will and their convictions to put forward a book. From conferences to different meetings, this film proves to be a successful documentary that we can only advise you to discover.
