If we were to draw up a ranking of the twenty or so films we discovered and which are on the program of the British virtual FrightFest festival of the best films, the first film edited, scripted and directed by David Simpson would certainly be there. Dangerous to know is a thriller with multiple twists and turns that knows how to play perfectly with the nerves of the spectators. Director David Simpson takes viewers on an epic journey using the Zeigarnik effect, a psychological consequence that continually resets the viewer's attention span by giving them new mysteries to meditate on.
The complexity of David Simpson's script allows for different levels of reading and is approached in the manner of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) and Gone Girl (2014) to a barely disguised homage to his thrillers by David Fincher. Taking care of both the form and the substance of his first film, director David Simpson manages to hold our attention for more than three hours. We discover a troubled young woman, Bridget Douglas (Bridget Graham), recovering from a suicide attempt in an isolated cabin, but when a series of unexplained and terrifying incidents occur, she realizes that someone has a much darker future ahead of them. We will avoid telling you the story so that you can discover all the richness of this film in an unspoiled way.
If the film Dangerous to know works so well, it is because it also benefits from a great deal of care taken as much in the image as in the editing of the film itself. It gives the impression of being in a plot on several levels that fit together. The film also benefits in the leading female role from the presence of the young actress Bridget Graham (Pixels (2015)). Despite the fact that it is an independent film, our surprise is all the greater given the care taken in the elaboration of this film that is as original as it is effective.
Finally, the music of the film also signed by David Simpson contributes to give it a special aura and to reinforce our adhesion to this thriller at the frontiers of fantasy which has established itself as one of the major films of this virtual edition of Frightfest...
