While the title of the new animated film from Warner Bros. studios hinted at an adventure dedicated to one of the best-known dogs in cinema, it must be acknowledged that what seems to have been at the root of this film is not only a tribute to the world of Hanna-Barbara productions, but above all a desire to bring to life the excellent Scooby-Doo Team up comic book series. The first scenes of the film taking place in the past allow us to learn the origin of the name Scooby-Doo during the first meeting at Venice-Beach between Shaggy Rogers and Scooby.
In the same way, we discover the meeting between Shaggy Rogers and Fred Jones, Vera Dinkley and Daphne Blake when they were still children. A few years and adventures later (quickly summarized), we find our band of detectives in the middle of a quarrel and thus the temporary separation of Shaggy and Scooby from the other members of their team Mystery & Co. While most Mystery & Co. adventures have shown that the many supernatural elements were just masquerades, this new adventure will involve many fantasy and science fiction elements. In the same way, the story will feature Scooby and Shaggy and take second place to their three friends. To confront a plot to unleash the forces of the ghost dog Cerberus, the Mystery & Co. team will also receive help from Blue Falcon's robotic talking dog Dynomutt and their assistant Dee Dee Skyes and take on one of the most famous enemies of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon Dick Dastardly from the animated series Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines.
It is easy to understand the will of Warner Bros. Pictures' desire to create in its own way a shared Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe in the same way as Justice League for DC Comics. We will also discover the picturesque Captain Caveman but also other characters from the world of Hanna Barbera Productions' cartoons. But we must admit that this universe as effective as it sounds a little surprising and difficult to convince completely. Yet we take a real pleasure to discover this new adventure that also seems to draw ideas from the minions of Illuminations with these little robots as funny as unusual.
We also appreciate the great care taken in the animation and we can easily understand that this animated film intended for a cinema release has real visual qualities and above all benefits from a real careful work on the script written by Adam Sztykiel, Jack Donaldson, Derek Elliott, Matt Lieberman. The director is Tony Cervone, who has directed numerous animated films, notably devoted to Tom and Jerry. We will also appreciate the very careful vocal casting in the original version in which we find Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo), Will Forte (Shaggy Rogers), Mark Wahlberg (Brian / Blue Falcon) Jason Isaacs (Dick Dastardly), Gina Rodriguez (Velma Dinkley), Zac Efron (Fred Jones), Amanda Seyfried (Daphne Blake), Ken Jeong (Dynomutt, Dog Wonder), Tracy Morgan (Captain Caveman).
Scoob! is a successful animated film that will delight adults who have grown up watching Scooby-Doo cartoons on TV as well as a new generation of younger viewers. We can only advise you to discover Scoob!.
