Resident Evil : Vendetta

Resident Evil: Vendetta is the third CGI installment of the franchise of the same name, released out of Japan by Sony Pictures, Entertainment Japan, and Kadokawa. The film is directed by the professional eye of Takanori Tsujimoto, produced by the talented Hiroyuki Kobayashi and the enforced by the literary skills of writer Makoto Fukami.

Resident Evil: Vendetta takes place in between the events of Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and is terror and action rolled into one. The protagonist of RE: Vendetta, Chris Redfield is the amazing combination of American voice actor Kevin Dorman and motion captured of Reuben Langdon. The visual style of Resident Evil: Vendetta is absolutely remarkable. Motion capture has come a long way and it shines even in the scary shadows of the lurking reanimated corpses of the Capcom universe. Marza Animation Company and Stage 6 of Sony Pictures is at the cutting edge of a beautifully created world. Characters are so life like and the depths of their emotions are perfectly captured and displayed through Sony’s CGI department. The first act of the film is definitely going to have you gripping your seat or jumping out of it. Frights and horrors almost crawl and drag themselves out of the screen in your face. They are so indistinguishable from live film footage that you will be questioning how they achieved such detailed renderings.

The storyline is intriguing but nothing to rave about. A deadly genius scientist is attacked by a dangerous shadowy government and he basically is seeking out his revenge, hence the title, Vendetta, but of course there are many others caught in the crosshairs. The stakes of a world disseminating virus do not seem as alarming as they may have in the first few movies of the Resident Evil franchise but if you examine Vendetta as a separate entity from the rest while remaining in the same universe, you will not be disappointed.

The action is all there and the thrills are genuine to the very end. A new addition to the standard Resident Evil virus strain is also another interesting point and tip toes the idea of mind controlled zombies. It’s fascinating to see such a formidable foe in the Glenn Arias antagonist and would warrant a prequest of his character’s rise to greatness and leading into his eventual descent into madness. Madness that would be justified once understanding his origins. Resident Evil: Vendetta is a well deserved feature film for fans of the series. Those that have been there from the beginning with Capcom will enjoy Takanori Tsujimoto directorial eye, Hiroyuki Kobayashi production prowess and Makoto Fukami creative writing. Anything that can continue on this films particular set of characters and branch out even more on the series into different areas will only be for the greater good. Resident Evil: Vendetta is a bloody wonderful example.
