After Spider-man: new generation (Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2019), Miles Morales is back in Spider-man: alone against all. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn-born Spider-Man is catapulted through the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-Heroes charged with protecting its existence. But when the heroes clash over how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself up against them and must redefine what it means to be a hero in order to save the people he loves most.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an upcoming American computer-animated superhero film starring Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Spider-Man, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and takes place in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called the "Spider-Verse." The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson (in their feature film directing debut) from a script by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham. Shameik Moore stars as Miles, alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Schwartzman, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Oscar Isaac. In the film, Miles goes on an adventure through the multiverse with a new team of Spider-People, known as Spider-Force.

Sony began developing a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse before the film's 2018 release, with the writing and directing team attached. The film was to focus on the relationship between Moore's Miles and Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman. The film was officially announced in November 2019 and animation work began in June 2020, with a different visual style for each of the six universes visited by the characters.

Lord revealed that design work for the film's new characters began in November 2019,] with comic book artist Kris Anka later revealing that he was serving as character designer on the film. On June 9, 2020, the film's lead animator, Nick Kondo, announced that production had begun. The different worlds visited in the film were designed to look like they were drawn by a different artist. Having learned new animation tools after working on The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021) following the first Spider-Verse film, Lord and Miller ambitiously employed them to generate six different animation styles. The intention was to surprise the audience each time the characters crossed into a new environment, so that the film could accurately reflect its plot and the styles could generate varied emotional backdrops.

Terre-65, Gwen Stacy's home, was designed to look like "impressionistic" watercolors. The animation team created a simulator to generate this style and used a visual palette that reflects Gwen's emotions as a "three-dimensional mood ring." This style was also designed by Miller to remind audiences of the Spider-Gwen comic book covers. One of the two alternate Earths seen in the trailer was Earth-50101, which the team dubbed "Mumbattan," after Mumbai and Manhattan, because that world is based on the one in Gotham Entertainment Group's Spider-Man: India comic book series. The other was Nueva York, the futuristic city of New York from the Marvel 2099 universe.

Miles' design was updated for the sequel to show that he's had a growth spurt, while Gwen got a new haircut and updated costume. Rick Leonardi, the co-creator of Spider-Man 2099, was invited to adapt his own designs for the film, while comic book artist Brian Stelfreeze was chosen to shape Jessica Drew's visual development. The Blob's design evolves throughout the film as she gains control of her abilities. She begins with a style that resembles an "unfinished sketch with blue construction lines that evoke a comic book artist's rough draft before the work was given to an inker." Spot's portals were meant to look like "living ink that would have dripped or splashed onto the cartoonist's drawing," which created new challenges for the animation team. The Vulture was given a Renaissance-era design, inspired by the illustrations in Leonardo da Vinci's exercise books.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled for release in the United States on June 2, 2023, delayed from an initial date of April 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024. A female-centric spin-off film is also in development.
