IT: Chapter Two welcomes the Losers Club back to Derry 27 years later to finish what they started, to kill IT once and for all. When we last left off the kids thought it might have been over but made a promise to each other that if IT ever returned they would to to put a stop to it. Like clock work, Pennywise comes back for his annual feeding, but not having forgotten his former foes, he welcomes them home with eager open arms.
If you loved Chapter One it’s likely you’ll love Chapter two. The continued tale of the bonds of friendship being put to the test against the unthinkable. The adult versions of themselves stumble back to Derry unsure of what to expect but revisit their old stomping grounds to get their bearings. The feel of Chapter Two is a little different from One, there’s less of that feeling of vulnerability surrounding children and more of a heavy weight of PTSD of nightmares that continue to plague their lives even 27 years later.
The movie taps out at a whopping 2 hours and 49 minutes. Yes that’s a long time, but we found that since we were so invested in the film it didn’t actually feel that long. The feel of Chapter Two is a little different from One, there’s less of that feeling of vulnerability surrounding children and more of a heavy weight of PTSD of nightmares that continue to plague their lives even 27 years later. They’re going to have to find out what it takes to save themselves, each other and all of Derry.
The casting for this movie, I think anyone can admit just from watching the trailer is phenomenal. Where some of the adult versions look almost identical to their child parts, those that don’t quite fit the image manage to find similar mannerisms that catch your attention and make you see they were perfect for the part. Bill Hader, aka Richie Tozier, definitely stands out from his fellow cast members, giving a performance you’re not going to forget.
We can’t forget Pennywise. Bill Skarsgård does it again, delivering a performance that just makes your skin crawl and has you begging whoever he is after to just run a little faster. His part in this film is less so than the previous but it never takes away the affect he has on the audience when he does appear on screen. There was no one better for this role than Skarsgård. Is it the eyes, the teeth, or his laugh that just makes him so darn creepy? You’re going to have to figure that one out for yourself. IT: Chapter Two comes to an end on September 6th.
