A stolen magic bag turns Christmas into a heist movie

After the bag disappears, Santa turns to his “Naughty List” and recruits Vance, played by Alan Ritchson, a former thief whose criminal skills suddenly become essential to saving Christmas. Vance is trying to rebuild his life and spend the holiday with his family, but the emergency pulls him into one more extraordinary job. The mission grows into a team operation involving Vance’s daughter, elves, reindeer and criminally skilled misfits. Allan Rice wrote the screenplay, while the producers include Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, Reg Tigerman, Dan Spilo and Alan Ritchson. Jonathan Sela is credited as cinematographer, Emma E. Hickox as editor and Shepherd Frankel as production designer.

The music is by John Debney, whose credits notably include Elf, an especially appropriate connection for another large-scale Christmas fantasy. Reports in September 2025 confirmed that Debney was recording the score for The Man with the Bag. He had also previously collaborated with Adam Shankman on The Pacifier, adding an established creative relationship to a production designed to combine action, broad comedy and seasonal warmth.

Prime Video sets The Man with the Bag for December 2, 2026

The December 2 premiere places The Man with the Bag at the beginning of the peak holiday viewing period. The Amazon MGM Studios film, associated with Grey Matter Productions, will stream on Prime Video. Its marketing is built around an instantly readable combination: a physically imposing Santa played by an action icon, the star of Reacher as a thief drafted into saving Christmas, and a fantasy heist in which elves and reindeer become part of the operation.

The trailer’s most distinctive choice is how openly it uses Arnold Schwarzenegger’s screen mythology while giving him a role he has never played before.
