Lego - LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar: The Fastest LEGO Car Ever Built

By Mulder, 19 june 2026

The LEGO Group and Swedish automaker Koenigsegg Automotive AB have just taken another spectacular step forward in the history of collaborations between the worlds of toys and high-performance automobiles. To celebrate the release of the new LEGO Technic set “Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar,” the two companies embarked on a challenge that was as ambitious as it was symbolic: to build a full-scale, fully functional version of the formidable Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear and then send it to tackle the famous Goodwood Hill Climb. The result is impressive: this LEGO Technic creation reached a top speed of 111 km/h, setting a new official record for a rolling LEGO build. This figure is all the more remarkable because it far exceeds the previous record held by another LEGO creation, which was limited to about 50 km/h. More than just a marketing stunt, this demonstration highlights the progress made by LEGO Technic engineers and designers in their quest to bring the world of miniature construction ever closer to real-world automotive engineering.

The choice of Goodwood is, of course, no coincidence. Located in Sussex, England, the Goodwood estate hosts the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed every year, which has become one of the must-attend events in the global automotive industry. It was precisely on this legendary hill climb that the real Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear made its mark in 2025, thanks to test driver Markus Lundh, who set a hill climb record behind the wheel of the Swedish hypercar. For this new attempt, the driver took his place behind the wheel once again, but this time in a very different machine. Despite its body made primarily of LEGO Technic parts, the car faithfully reproduced the aggressive lines and technical specifications of the original model. The feat was even accomplished in the opposite direction of the traditional route, adding an extra dimension to this already extraordinary challenge.

The construction itself is impressive in its scale. The LEGO Technic teams used exactly 327,906 pieces to bring this giant replica to life. The entire structure weighs approximately 1,800 kilograms, including nearly 400 kilograms of LEGO bricks and components. It took more than 9,400 hours of development, engineering, design, and assembly to complete this project. True to the “Build For Real” philosophy that has guided the LEGO Technic line for several years, this creation does more than simply mimic the appearance of the original vehicle. It also incorporates several iconic features of the real Sadair’s Spear, including the famous “Ghost Mode” developed by Koenigsegg, the brand’s signature key, and a lightweight body made entirely of LEGO Technic elements.

For Christian von Koenigsegg, founder and CEO of Koenigsegg Automotive AB, this achievement perfectly illustrates the shared values that unite the two companies. The Swedish executive emphasized that constant innovation and the pursuit of extreme performance are at the very heart of Koenigsegg’s identity. Seeing the Sadair’s Spear recreated both as an ultra-detailed 1:8-scale LEGO Technic model and as a full-scale vehicle capable of setting a speed record represents, in his view, a concrete demonstration of what a shared passion for engineering and creativity can achieve. Markus Lundh shared the same enthusiasm, explaining that behind the wheel of this LEGO creation, he experienced a sensation surprisingly close to that felt in a real Koenigsegg—proof of the care that went into the project’s design.

This initiative coincides with the launch of the new LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar (set number 42232), which joins the prestigious Ultimate Car Concept collection. Launched in 2016 with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, this series has become one of LEGO Technic’s most important technological showcases. It has successively featured reproductions of iconic vehicles such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Bugatti Chiron, the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, the Ferrari Daytona SP3, and, most recently, the McLaren P1. All of these models have helped push the boundaries of mechanical realism within the LEGO Technic line, but the new partnership with Koenigsegg appears to take things to a new level in terms of complexity and the sophistication of the features offered.

The new model consists of 4,104 pieces and measures 59 centimeters long, 28 centimeters wide, and 15 centimeters high. Designed in close collaboration between the LEGO Technic teams and Koenigsegg engineers, it accurately reproduces several technical innovations from the real Swedish megacar. Builders will discover a working V8 piston engine, a nine-speed sequential transmission, a Triplex suspension system replicated at both the front and rear, and a new rotating indicator that instantly displays the current gear. Perhaps the most spectacular feature is the integration of the fully functional “Ghost Mode.” With a simple control, you can raise the rear section, open the famous “synchro-helix” doors, raise the front hood, and fold down the side mirrors—faithfully replicating the operation of the real car.

According to Kasper Rene Hansen, Senior Model Designer at the LEGO Group, the goal was to create the most advanced LEGO Technic Ultimate model ever designed. The simultaneous integration of “Ghost Mode,” a nine-speed transmission, and the Triplex suspension system marks several firsts in the history of this collection. The designer emphasizes that each of these innovations required pushing the usual boundaries of the LEGO Technic system in order to offer a building experience that is as challenging as it is rewarding. This constant pursuit of realism has been one of the hallmarks of the line for several years, and it now appeals to car enthusiasts as much as it does to fans of advanced building sets.

The LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar will be available for early access to LEGO Insiders program members starting July 1, 2026, ahead of a global release on July 4, 2026, at a suggested retail price of 449.99 euros. To mark this launch, LEGO will offer Insiders members who make a purchase between July 1 and July 6 an exclusive model replicating the Sadair’s Spear’s steering wheel. This promotional piece will allow users to observe how the instrument cluster functions—remaining perfectly horizontal as the steering wheel turns—a technical innovation that is one of Koenigsegg’s most recognizable hallmarks. More than just a merchandise item, this collaboration illustrates LEGO and Koenigsegg’s shared commitment to celebrating engineering in all its forms, whether on the racetrack or on the building tables of enthusiasts around the world.

With this record set at Goodwood and the arrival of a particularly ambitious new model, LEGO Technic confirms its gradual transformation into a true miniature engineering laboratory. At once a tribute to Swedish automotive excellence, a technological showcase, and a high-end building experience, the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar is already establishing itself as one of the most memorable LEGO releases of 2026 and as yet another example of the LEGO Group’s ability to transform engineers’ dreams into tangible objects capable, at times, of reaching speeds of over 100 km/h.
