Tuesday 18 June, 3:19 PM PT
In a delightful nod to nostalgia, NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association) has unveiled a special San Diego Comic-Con 2024 exclusive that will thrill fans of retro television. The new release features Earl Sinclair, the iconic dinosaur patriarch from the beloved 1990s TV series Dinosaurs, in his superhero alter ego, Captain Impressive. This announcement has generated significant excitement among collectors and fans alike, eager to see this unique character brought to life in an action figure format.
The Dinosaurs series, which originally aired from 1991 to 1994 on ABC, remains a cult classic for its innovative use of puppetry and animatronics, crafted by Jim Henson's legendary team. Set in the year 60,000,003 BC in the fictional world of Pangaea, the show humorously depicted the daily lives of the Sinclair family. Led by Earl Sinclair, the family included his wife Fran, their children Robbie, Charlene, and Baby Sinclair, as well as Fran's mother Ethyl. Through the lens of these anthropomorphic dinosaurs, the show tackled contemporary social issues such as environmentalism, corporate greed, and family dynamics, making it both entertaining and thought-provoking.

The new 7-inch scale action figure captures Earl Sinclair's transformation into Captain Impressive, a superhero persona he adopts in the Season 4 episode Earl, Don’t Be a Hero. In this memorable episode, Earl gains superpowers after an accidental fall into a lake of toxic waste. However, his heroic journey takes a comedic twist when his employer, the WESAYSO Corporation, exploits his newfound abilities for corporate gain. The figure itself is a testament to NECA's attention to detail, featuring full articulation, including a movable tail, and a costume made from tailored soft goods. Additional accessories include a wired cape, interchangeable heads and hands, and a trachea plug, all designed to enhance the figure's display and playability.

Collectors can look forward to securing this exclusive figure during the presale, which runs from June 26th to June 28th on theNECAstore.com. For those attending San Diego Comic-Con next month, the figure will also be available for purchase in person. This release follows NECA's theme of reviving classic characters in unique and nostalgic ways, adding to their lineup of retro TV superheroes. The Earl Sinclair as Captain Impressive figure is expected to pair perfectly with NECA's previously announced Super Alf figure, creating a dynamic duo that celebrates the quirky and beloved television of the past.

The enduring appeal of Dinosaurs lies in its clever blend of humor and social commentary, qualities that have kept it fresh in the memories of fans for decades. The series was a product of Jim Henson's creative vision, conceived in the late 1980s and brought to fruition with the help of talented artists and animators. Despite its prehistoric setting, the show's themes and characters resonated with contemporary audiences, making it a hit upon its release. The innovative animatronics and expressive puppetry were particularly groundbreaking, setting a high standard for television production at the time.

NECA's commitment to quality and nostalgia shines through in their latest release. By bringing Captain Impressive to life, they offer fans a tangible piece of their childhood memories, beautifully crafted and meticulously detailed. The figure's packaging is designed to be collector-friendly, allowing enthusiasts to display the figure without removing it from its box, preserving its condition and value. This attention to detail ensures that the figure is not only a toy but a cherished collectible for years to come.

As San Diego Comic-Con approaches, anticipation for this exclusive figure continues to build. The convention, known for its celebration of pop culture and collectibles, provides the perfect backdrop for the debut of Earl Sinclair as Captain Impressive. For fans of Dinosaurs, this release is more than just a new action figure; it's a celebration of a beloved series that continues to inspire and entertain. NECA's latest offering promises to be a highlight of the convention, a must-have for collectors, and a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of Jim Henson's Dinosaurs.
