By Mulder, San Diego, AMC Mission Valley 20, 21 july 2022

We had the chance to discover the new movie of the cinematographic saga Prey in preview at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022. This world premiere organized to perfection by Collider was one of the highlights of our SDCC coverage. The screening at the AMC Mission Valley 20 theater a few miles from the San Diego Convention Center was followed by a Q&A moderated by Collider editor Steven Weintraub with director Dan Trachtenberg, producer Jhane Myers and actors Amber Midthunder (Naru), Dakota Beavers (Taabe) and Dane DiLiegro (The Predator).

Prey will be released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu Original Movie on August 5, 2022. It will also air on Disney+ Hotstar in India and Southeast Asian territories, on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ in other international territories.

Prey, the new thriller from 20th Century Studios, will be available August 5 in the Star world on Disney+. Set three centuries ago in Comanche territory, the film follows the destiny of young Naru, a fierce and brilliant warrior. Raised in the shadow of legendary hunters on the Great Plains from an early age, she makes it her duty to protect her tribe whenever danger threatens. She discovers that the prey she is currently tracking is none other than a highly evolved alien predator with a sophisticated arsenal of weapons. A confrontation as perverse as terrifying soon begins between the two adversaries...

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (The Boys and 10 Cloverfield Lane series) and written by Patrick Aison (Jack Ryan and Treadstone series), Prey stars Amber Midthunder (Legion series), Stormee Kipp (SOOYII), Michelle Grive (Midnight Sun), Julian Black Antelope (Tribal) and newcomer Dakota Beavers. The film is produced by John Davis (Jungle Cruise, Predator) and Jhane Myers (Monsters of God). Lawrence Gordon (Watchmen), Marty Ewing (It: chapter 2), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (Nightmare island) are the executive producers.

Development of the film began during the production of The Predator (2018), when producer John Davis was approached by Trachtenberg and Aison, with a concept that they had been developing since 2016. The film's title was revealed to be the codename for the fifth installment in the franchise, serving as an origin story for the main villains. Prey premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022. It is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film on August 5, 2022.

The Prey team is committed to portraying the Comanche Nation as accurately as possible, with genuine respect for the indigenous people who make up the nation. As a result, the lead roles have been cast with actual Native Americans. Producer Jhane Myers, who is known for her commitment to Indian history and culture, is also a member of the Comanche Nation, as well as a director and Sundance Festival member.
