Serie - Krypton: Protect the legacy of House El.

Par Lola, 03 avril 2018

The new show from Warner Bros. TV, Krypton is broadcasted by SyFy and its world premiere was the past March 15, 2018 at South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, TX. It aired for the first time on March 21 on SyFy. This show tells the story of House El. This house was one of the most recognized families in Kandor, the capital city of the planet Krypton. The families whose names are recognized have a rank above the families who don’t (known as “rankless”) and even live in the city above them. The social status in Kandor is very important, only the ranked ones will have a spot on a guild, in other words, be part of main activity of Krypton.

The story center on a young Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), who will become 200 years after the grandfather of Kal-El, better known as Superman. Val-El (Ian McElhinney), the grandfather of Seg, was part of the Science Guild but he was found guilty of treason and sentenced to death; their family name was banished and Seg and his parents, Ter-El (Rupert Graves) and Charys-El (Paula Malcomson) became rankless, all in front of the little Seg. Time passes by and Seg never got over what happened to his grandfather. That and the social gap between the Houses and the Rankless people, enhanced his need for retribution from the Chief Magistrate of Kandor, Daron Vex (Elliot Cowan) who was the one that sentenced and executed Val-El.

In the current wave of superheroes-based shows, this is one that goes to the very beginning of a story just a few know, with characters out of the spotlight but which are key for the current storylines in the comics, making this show a must see to understand deeper the Superman story arcs. Also, this show explains and digs in some of the Superman mythos like what is the phantom zone, the origin of The fortress of solitude; we get to know former houses of Krypton like Zod, Vex; introduces in the story an old-new hero, Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) and the conquer of worlds, Brainiac (Blake Ritson).

For a limited budget, this show developed the perfect environment for Kandor. The make-up in this serie is outstanding just by looking at Brainiac, like in most of the shows from Syfy. The CGI and the clothes design (like Superman’s cape) isn’t as spectacular as the make-up, and is meant just to stablish de differences from humans and kryptonians; fitting perfectly with scenario.

Krypton has already aired 2 episodes and the 3rd will be aired on April 4 2018. We don’t need to be a fan of Superman to enjoy this show, but if you want to know more about his heritage, this show is for you. We highly recommend it, don’t miss Krypton every Wednesday on SyFy!
