Serie - iZombie: Welcome to New Seattle!

Par Mulder, 26 février 2018

After waiting for over 8 months, on Monday February 26th, the fourth season of iZombie premiered on The CW. This show combines the elements of a sit-com, a drama and is a comic based series WITH ZOMBIES! What makes this show different from the other ones is the way the zombies are: fully functioning undead people.
From the beginning of the series we can see the development and transformation of zombies and the growing of their community in Seattle. The main character is Olivia “Liv” Moore (Rose McIver) who was a cardiothoracic surgery resident engaged to a handsome social worker, Major Lilywhite (Robert Buckley) and lived with her best friend Peyton Charles (Aly Michalka). Her future was promising until a tragic accident makes her a zombie so she ended her engagement and now works as a medical examiner for the Seattle Police Department to gain easy access to brains.

Everytime Liv eats a brain she has visions and acts like the person whose brain belonged, and as a medical examiner this is very useful for Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) who is a homicide detective and didn’t fully understand why Liv changed her behavior in every case. Also, in every episode we can learn a new way to cook a brain, like a sandwich, smoothie, etc.

Zombies were living in Seattle without being noticed, but in this season there is known that not only they exist, but a military zombified enterprise contaminated flu vaccines and turned innocent people into zombies, to create New Seattle, a walled city and the first of the new world. We can see them distributing for free, tubes with a mix of brains that doesn’t give visions to the people they turned into zombies without their consent.

In the first episode, situated 3 months after the last season, we discovered what happened after Liv scratched Ravi to figure if the zombie cure he was working on, was successful. We get to see Blaine DeBeers (David Anders), who was the main antagonist on the first season, and his very difficult relationship with his father, Angus McDonough (Robert Knepper) who this season becomes a regular character.

The fourth season of iZombie will deal with the aftermath of a civilized zombie outbreak, the segregation of zombies and humans, the discrimination from both sides, the normalized use of brains and the period of transition to unify two worlds with a not so serious approach. This is in fact the season with more political content so far in the show, focusing in this aspects in Seattle, New Seattle and in the division with two kinds of people: living and undead.

The previous seasons of iZombie are available in Netflix in Latin-America and the current season is also available but just for US and UK. It is broadcast by The CW on Mondays at 10:00 PM.
