He is highly articulate in discussing his practice, always making for a thoughtful, strong interview.

Award winning musician, composer, and Mercury Prize nominated producer Daniel Lopatin AKA Oneohtrix Point Never delivers an electronic score for the critically lauded Good Time, written and directed by the Safdie brothers (Heaven Knows What). In May, Good Time won the Best Soundtrack Award at Cannes. Good Time Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is available digitally as well as on CD and vinyl from Warp records. (ASIN: B071JPTJZ1). The acclaimed crime thriller arrives on Blu Ray/DVD on November 21st, 2017.

After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Constantine Nikas (Pattinson) embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city's underworld in an increasingly desperate-and dangerous-attempt to get his brother out of jail. Over the course of one adrenalized night, Constantine finds himself on a mad descent into violence and mayhem as he races against the clock to save his brother and himself. Anchored by a career-defining performance from Robert Pattinson, Good Time is a psychotic symphony of propulsive intensity. Oneohtrix Point Never began writing the score after reading the script.

The Safdie brothers wanted the score to become another character in the film. “We met daily for a month, refining the score and how it would interact with the film’s sound design. I really wanted a metaphorical, subliminal sound to represent New York City in addition to the raw environmental sounds that the Safdie brothers captured, it’s Cinéma vérité meets unknown territory.”

Oneohtrix Point Never crafted distinct musical languages for the characters, which supplied them an additional layer of individuality. “I wanted to create a carnival-like world in Nick Nikas’ head, who is an overgrown toddler struggling in the adult landscape.”

Director Josh Safdie’s interest in working with Oneohtrix Point Never dates back nearly a decade. "Eight years ago, we were turned onto the music of Oneohtrix Point Never. I had always imagined Dan's work as soundtracks to movies that never existed. From our collaboration on Good Time, we have gained a deep friendship and a fluorescent extra-terrestrial score.”

Oneohtrix Point Never wrote the song “The Pure and the Damned” with Golden Globe nominated artist Iggy Pop providing the lyrics and vocals. “I heard this tune in my head, so I sampled some Tuvan throat-singing, just to give Iggy some general reference to what I was thinking.” Pop wrote the lyrics after screening Good Time in his home. “Moral ambivalence was the big thing that Iggy took away from the film. That was his lyrical inspiration for ‘The Pure and the Damned.’”

Oneohtrix Point Never’s extensive production credits include Anohni, FKA Twigs, David Byrne and Nine Inch Nails among others. In addition to Good Time, his other film scores include Ariel Kleiman’s Partisan (2015), and Sofia Coppola’s Bling Ring (2013).

The Good Time soundtrack is available digitally as well as on CD and vinyl from Warp records.
