The Shannara Chronicles series follows the storylines of The Elfstones of Shannara. A book by author Terry Brooks. In December 2013, MTV announced that a series based on the books was being produced. Filming for the 10-episodes first season wrapped in New Zealand at Auckland Film Studios in June 2015. During the Shannara Chronicles panel at San Diego Comic-Con International in July 2015, the first trailer was revealed. This was the perfect place to bring to life into the character from the books and the life size set. The series begins in a place called the Four Lands. This place is made up of all kind of all kind of creatures and beings. The Four Lands begins to get invaded by demons. There is a an ancient tree called the Ellcrys. This tree is the key that locks the demons into the their banished world called the Forbidding. The series sets out with Wil, Amberle, Eretria and the last druid Allanon on a journey to save the Ellcrys from dying and releasing all the banished demons back into the Four Lands their world.
The series is produced by Dan Farah, Jon Favreau, Miles Millar, Al Gough, Jonathan Liebesman, and the author Terry Brooks. The Shannara Chronicles premiered on MTV January 5, 2016, with a two-hour series premiere. It was instantly a hit among young teen. MTV quickly gave its renewal for season 2. The highly anticipated series began filming for the second season January 31, 2017, in New Zealand. It’s slotted to primer Oct. 11, 2017. Fans can’t wait considering Brooks, has stated in an interview that he is happy with the way his story has been adapted. Season 2 take place a year after the War of the Forbidding, Wil’s new life is interrupted by a mysterious new figure. Eretria is reunited with someone from her past. Meanwhile, Allanon uncovers a plot that could send the Four Lands into darkness.
With a great plot, amazing costumes, sets and CGI its easy to see why the series is such a hit. The costumes are a part of what makes the show so authentic. Most of the costumes are earth tones. Varies browns and tans but with amazing detail. Deep reds and burgundys, allot of the jackets and boots keep the rusting feel. But what stands out is the detailed stitching and unique style. There is also some amazing dresses. Some might say the best costumes are the Trolls. These costumes are kind of steam punk inspired. Most the of pieces put onto the costume are used appliance pieces. Purposely done to keep the feel of the costumes rustic. The on site location in New Zealand that was picked was perfect. With the stunning life sized sets. It sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Even though I never seen the first season. After watching the season 2 premier. I think I might go back to season one and watch it all. It was defiantly better than I had originally assumed. The costumes were amazing. Especially the ones tartare steampunk inspired. The CGI is pretty good also. But the fight scenes are also well done. It’s easy to see why the original writer of the book is pleased. It’s slated for teens and young adults. But I think that all who like fantasy, awesome costumes, action and adventure will enjoy this series. Episode 1 – Airs 10/11/17.
