The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series developed by Frank Darabont, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.

On April 2nd, AMC’s The Walking Dead completed its 7th season with a 90 minute episode entitled “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life” in the United States with the usual amounts of drama and death that we have grown to expect from the zombie filled world where humans still reign as the most dangerous creature on the planet populated by Walkers. As this season winds to a close, most avid fans had already come to the conclusion that one or more major cast members would be leaving the show in a gruesome death. Each season ending has concluded with fans crying and praying that their favorite actor or actress would survive, yet knowing that each death helps propel the storyline and force the characters to evolve.

Recently fan favorite Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Abraham Ford (Michael Cudilitz) were murdered by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). This has shaped the storyline of season 7, as the characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Sasha Williams (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the rest of the survivors of Alexandria have made decisions and actions based off the death of their loved ones and their fight to work under the demands of Negan and the Saviors.

Maggie has grown stronger during this ordeal taking control of the Hill Top and training them on how to grow crops and how to defend themselves. They have grown to resent the Saviors and are now willing to fight back with Alexandria and other survivors.

In the previous episode Dwight (Austin Amelio) has surrendered to Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos after Sasha and Rosita have a failed attacked on the Sanctuary. She brings him back to Alexandria where he tells Rick that he wants to help destroy the Saviors. Daryl threatens Dwight with a knife pointing it within millimeters of his eyeball. Dwight does not back down and RIck goes along with Dwight's plan to trap and destroy Negan and then take the fight to each of the Savior's outposts, destroying them one at a time.

Rosita is able to escape because Sasha goes on a suicide mission to kill Negan. Sasha has spiraled down into depression since the death of Abraham and this daring all or nothing attack on the compound of the Saviors is the result. Sasha is captured and given a choice to join the Saviors or to die. Negan tries to win over Sasha asking her to make the right decision to join him and become Negan. She says that she will help Negan if he spares the people of Alexandra. Negan of course will have none of that insisting that they must learn the lesson with multiple deaths, but is argued down to just one sacrifice for Lucille which will be her choice.
On the trip to Alexandria Sasha takes her life in order to surprise Negan in the hopes of killing him. Her gamble fails to kill Negan, but is the saving moment that allowed the most of Alexandrians to survive and fight off the Saviors and the Junkyard people who have made a separate deal with Negan to turn on Rick's group.

As Negan and the Junkyard people round up the survivors of the trap, Maggie with the Hilltop and the Kingdom arrive with the roar of Shiva scaring the heck out of Negan who can not believe a Tiger is attacking him. As both group attacks, the Saviors and Junkyard people retreat under fire and set up an ambush at the gate that allows them to get away. A key easter egg of the last few minutes is when Daryl find a chess figure that Dwight has left behind that says ‘I didn't know” which opens up the possibility for future collaboration between them and a future possible opportunity to destroy the Saviors. Of course everything could not be just that simple. The final scene shows Negan with a large group of followers that are ready to go to war. Now we must all wait till the next episode arrives for us to find out if Rick and his group have finally reached the end of their luck to survive. -
