Q: Do you think movies will ever use the VR capabilities next/current gen game consoles are getting to make a more immersive home cinema experience?

James Gunn: Aspects of it, but in general, no. I love VR (have Vive), but cinema is passive - meaning people like to relax and have it happen to them. So anything that makes it more IMMERSIVE is good. But anything that makes cinema more INTERACTIVE is just a fad (just like choose your own adventure). Gaming is a different story. VR is everything, because it's innately an interactive medium.

Q: Do you miss the headphone jack? Also how would you rate the DC extended universe films and TV shows. Also how would you rank the MCU films and Netflix shows.

James Gunn: I wouldn't rank any of the movies. But, for the shows, DD season one is the best!!!!

Q: Will you be involved in infinity war since star Lord has been confirmed, and a stone was introduced in Guardians volume one?

James Gunn : That doesn't mean he's not. But it does mean he definitely wasn't confirmed.

Q: Biggest hurdle to over come working in the Marvel Universe?

James Gunn : Fan expectations.

Q: as a musician I love film scores, and often listen to them while studying. What is your opinion on the recent article/video about the lack of memorable music in the MCU? Obviously GoTG and GoTGv2 are different with the inclusion of the awesome

James Gunn : Nonsense. Tyler's Guardians SCORE was the best selling SCORE that year. It wasn't only the soundtrack stuff. I constantly have people talking to me about those themes. As for the rest, yes, some of them are bland.

Q: How different is it now making big studio films vs your early starts with Troma, and do you feel you still have the same freedoms when you were lesser known compared to having the weight of a big studio picture on your shoulders?

James Gunn: Let's be very clear: I have infinitely more freedom at Marvel than I did at Troma. And more than ever on Vol. 2.

Q: Favorite part about filming Thanos? Or how happy were you when you found out you were including Thanos in GOTG.

James Gunn : Brolin being a mensch.

Q: Does cosmo the dog return? I would love a scene where he has become manager so to speak of an abandoned knowhere and is on the landing platform ready to greet the guardians via telepathy and rocket freaks out cause the dog is in his head.

James Gunn: That will be a good scene in your Guardians movie. :)

Q: So looking forward to Sept 30th for the Luke Cage Netflix show... have you been watching these too? (Daredevil, Jessica Jones,...) I love the not-so-heroic hero stories.

James Gunn: I watched the whole first season of DD, and part of season one of JJ and season 2 of DD.

Q: Been reading a bit about Ego after you posted earlier about working with Kurt Russell. The Wikipedia entry suggested you've got with the humanoid version of the character. Is there any CGI with Kurt or is it prosthetics? Also what's your favourite Kurt Russell film?

James Gunn : Wikipedia doesn't know anything about Vol. 2 other than the few seconds shown at Comicon, just like everyone else. So you'll have to wait to learn about Ego. And The Thing.

Q: Have you directed any movies that, in retrospect, you wish that you had edited or marketed differently than what was finally presented? Thanks! I've been a big fan since Slither!

James Gunn: Yes I think we could have marketed both Slither and SUPER better.

Q: When you watch a film, and you have your popcorn, maybe a drink and the lights go down...Are you watching as a film fan or are you watching as a filmmaker? And do you still enjoy movies for the magic they create?

James Gunn: I watch as both. I'm always a filmmaker, I can't just detach that part of myself.

Q: Here's an unconventional question: do you have any dating advice for approaching a woman in public, like at a coffee shop and asking her for her number?

James Gunn: I think it's an approach based on such little information (i.e. such shallow information i.e. looks and only looks) that it is less likely to work, unless you're naturally inclined in that direction, which some people are.

Q: I know I'm late but I think it's still worth a shot: James, have you read any books on scriptwriting? If so, which ones would you recommend?

James Gunn: The Writer's Journey.

Q: My friend and i keep having massive discussions and debates over SUPER but the thing that keeps popping up is the look. It's very unashamedly grungy and deliberately unpolished (i assume) but i'm wondering if that was a style choice to go with the RED ...

James Gunn : It was always meant to be grungy, and would be that way no matter what the budget.

Q: you mentioned that pre-setted dates for a cinema release might hurt the production value of a film...how comes it doesn't apply to marvel or does it as well?

James Gunn: It does, for sure. Marvel movies have definitely been hurt by having to meet a production date when the script wasn't completely finished before shooting, just like most modern tentpole films.

Q: How do you feel Doctor Strange will effect the Guardians of the Galaxy? I know this movie will introduce the multiverse of Marvel and it is rumored that Doctor Strange will appear in Thor: Ragnarok which is supposed to be a "cosmic road trip". So, how do you feel, personally, Doctor Strange will effect the Guardians?

James Gunn : He will not affect Vol 2, as I wrote the script before I ever read the Doc Strange script.

Q: Did you know right away what character you wanted to be the villian for the up coming GOTG or did you have to think about it for awhile?

James Gunn I thought about it. I wasn't sure if the plot for 2 would be the plot for 2 or for Vol. 3.

Q: Huge fan of your work. Any chance you'll ever make a lollipop chainsaw movie or work on a game sequel? Or did it not do so well? I know it was kind of a niche title but it was an amazing B-Movie game experience. Haha.

James Gunn! The game did really well, but it's not on my immediate list of projects.

Q: Clearly marvel have given you considerable free reign with both GOTG movies, however how much creative input does the studio have in terms of relating the storylines back to the MCU? Do you write first then they add what they need or is all collaborative?

James Gunn : I write, and then they adjust the rest of the universe! Easy! On Vol 2 they never had to ask me to change or add anything.

Q: Great to hear you have some time to yourself and wanted to spend it with us xx my question for you would be ... what advice would you give to a teenager interested in photography and directing our school plays but who doesnt believe he can be a proffessional like you one day?

James Gunn: I just finished one project after the other until I got here. It's fairly simple.

Q; Did you have music decided on for Kurt Russell, or did his appearance on set decide what the music in the background would be?

James Gunn I had both the score and the soundtrack choices before I had Kurt.

Q: Would it be a little difficult going back to low budget films after filming two big budget films? Or is it all the same too you now? Always wondered how that worked.

James Gunn: On SUPER I didn't even have a trailer. That would be a pain.

Q: What are some films you love that others would be surprised by you loving? (Basically Singing in the Rain for me, don't know why people are surprised by it)

James Gun: I love a lot of musicals. But I think people know I'm eclectic enough that I enjoy all sorts of movies.

Q : Would you ever if given the chance totake on a Howard the duck movie ..would you or no? And if you could make a film of any character wether in DC or Marvel who would it be?

James Gunn: I'm not really interested in characters outside the Guardians-verse right now.

Q: Not to diminish GOTG V2, but -- I'm kinda actually really excited about Belko. Know when we can see it in theaters countrywide?.

James Gunn : You can see it in theaters throughout the States and Canada on March 17.

Q: Heya James Gunn, Im a UK based scare actor that loves creating creatures and characters for the attraction I work for but always wondered how I can get in to films. Any advise?

James Gunn: No clue. I know about as much on those career paths as I do on those of a plumber. My road was much different.

Q: Do you edit the whole film and then show it to Feige?? Or is he also involved in the editing process? Also, which Phase 3 film r u most excited for? (besides your own)

James Gunn: I edit the whole film and then show it to the guys.

Q: Is there was one film of martin Martin Scorsese that you would love to forget just so you could watch it,what would it be and why ? Mr James Gunn.

James Gunn: I can't imagine wanting to make a Scorsese film. What makes a Scorsese film is Scorsese making it!

Q: How awesome it's to be in the film industry because I want to be in the industry one day after I finish with high school and college

James Gunn: You'd have to be willing to give it at least ten years after that.

Q: Are you glad Disney changed the release date for Star Wars episode 8?

James Gunn : Incredibly so. So are they. It was strange we were so close to each other.

Q: Hey James Gunn uh huge fan duh. Anyways do you think you'll ever have Chris Pratt in another one of your movies?

James Gunn : Absolutely. We'll be working together for a long time to come.

Q: Do you, as a filmmaker, still look up to other filmmakers as you presumably did when you were younger? If so, who?

James Gunn : Yes. I adore Scorsese, Cronenberg, and many others.

Q: What DC film are you looking forward to seeing in theaters?

James Gunn : Aquaman.

Q: What comics would you recommend reading to prepare for character knowledge for GotG Vol 2?

James Gunn : No comics reading necessary.

Q: What was it like working at Troma? How did you find out about the studio?

James Gunn : Hard but exciting. I knew about them for a long time because I'd watch their movies on cable.

Q: Fave guardians character?

James Gunn : Rocket.

Q: Will there be any appearances of any Avengers? Like Thor for instance since he left to investigate the Infinity Stones.

James Gunn : No. And there are no Infinity Stones either.

Q: Any other hobbies that you wish to pursue when you have extra time again?

James Gunn : I'm gonna get some chickens and pigs and goats to put on my little ranch!

Q : Is there any music you would have liked to use in GOTG 2 but couldn't get clearance for ?

James Gunn Nope. I've gotten every song I've ever tried to get.

Q: What's your writing process like ? Do you outline ? Use sequences. Treatments ? How far do you go before you actually put words to page??

James Gunn! I write treatments that intimately go through every scene, even a lot of dialogue, before I ever write the screenplay.

Q: Besides science fiction, what is your favorite genre of film to watch when relaxing?

James Gunn : Westerns and comedies are my favorites above everything, in general.

Q: Hey James! Did you ever thought about introducing more modern Guardians of the Galaxy's members? I know that would be really hard to work on, just a curosity :) Also do you usually read a lot Marvel comics to catch up with some stories?

James Gunn : These Guardians are from 2008 - to me that IS modern!

Q: Sometimes I find that I struggle to write if it isn't the "right conditions," meaning clean over clutter, headspace, light, etc. Is that something you struggle with? If so, how do you overcome that?

James Gunn : Ignore it. Write despite it.

Q: Guardians of the Galaxy was and is probably my favourite film of the Marvel Franchise, execution in the cinematography sense was flawless - and the added bonus of a great story line accompanied by a nostalgia driven soundtrack; it is exceptional! My question is very random indeed, but your surname interests me - are you in anyway connected to the old Gunn clan of Scotland? My family lineage extends to that clan as a Sept! Always wondered, thanks!

James Gunn No, my family was MacGilgunn (today Gilgunn) from Ireland.

Q: Having opened up the world of comic books to my son by watching your marvellous guardians of the galaxy what comics were you reading when you were 8 years old?

James Gunn : So many. Spider-Man, all Shazams and Batmans, Metal Men, Plastic Man - pretty much everything I could get my hands on.

Q: Huber Who is your favorite comic book artist at this moment in time? For me it's Mike Allred, I love the ability he has to say some much with the simplicity of his designs.

James Gunn : Allred and Quitetly are definitely up there.

Q: What were your favourite moments of the set of "The Belko Experiment"? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to ask a GOTG question, but oddly I'm more excited about Belko because of Owain Yeoman being cast, the man was brilliant in The Mentalist, what was he like to work with?

James Gunn: Owain and I have been friends a long time. He's extraordinary in the film. Overall it was just one of the most fun set experiences I've ever had.

Q: marvel knows his fans so you know the fans because you were a fan you are a fan now so what ?s the fact behind th?s secrecy ?about future plans about movies about MCU about productions ? th?nk there is a certain line between doing a comicbook movie and a normal franchhise movie we all know actors and directors censored by marvel :D ? th?nk directors should have more creative control about sharing ?deas

James Gunn: Yeah, I choose my own secrecy. Marvel doesn't dictate to me what to say. I want you guys to see a movie you haven't seen before you've seen it.

Q: I think your candidness is immense. Please, never change ..do you travel light?

James Gunn: I travel pretty heavy also.

Q: Is GotG2 gonna lead directly into Infinity wars with the Guardians heading to earth, or will the Guardians be brought to earth in another film?

James Gunn: Vol. 2 is a self-enclosed film, not really related to IW.

Q: Do you think on screen Rocket and Groot can hold their own separately? Or do they need screen time together to work? As a rocket fan, I'll take as much Rocket as I can get. :)

James Gunn : They are separate characters and work separately as well as together.

Q: For Vol. 2 have you begun to consciously write more closely to the voice the returning actors have given to their characters or do you work more closely with the actors after the script is finished?

James Gunn : I write for them more closely. My working relationship with them hasn't changed.

James Gunn : Lee Marvin.

James Gunn : The depth which we get to know the characters.

James Gunn : I think them as the same job. It's all story-telling. I think of myself as a story-teller I guess.

Q: Do you think its necessary to go and study about it just to write screenplays ?

James Gunn : No, but an education in writing is very helpful.

Q: Hey James , I know this is a regular question, but what is your favourite movie released this year?
