Mulder's Review

« Mia and Ime, set in an imaginary land called Centopia, is a movie full of magic, elves and unicorns. Mia gets the cinematic treatment she and her fans deserve. We've respected the rich universe of the established television series, while expanding the world of Centopia with new characters, locations and mythology. Mia, as a character, is a strong and positive role model for young girls, and this is still the case in the film as she faces challenges and has extraordinary adventures. We explored themes of loss, friendship, fear and healing. » - Adam Gunn

Aimed at a very young audience, Mia and Me: The Hero of Centopia is an extension of the animated series of the same name and offers us a film between animation and live-action in which Mia will once again be transported to a fairy-tale universe with magical elves of all kinds and will face an evil toad Toxor wishing to take his revenge on those who turned their backs on her in the past.

The film Mia and me the hero of Centopia, reminds us in some ways of the Arthur and the Minimoys universe with its fantastic universe but especially its concept of mixing live action scenes and CGI animation. After an animated series composed of three seasons (78 episodes of 23 minutes) and broadcast in more than 170 countries, the universe of Mia has also conquered many readers (1.8 million books sold) but also become many toys (Mattel, Simba Dickie). This true phenomenon has also been a hit on youtube with more than 1.4 billion views worldwide via its official channel. Such figures could only lead to the realization of a film to satisfy the expectations of the many young viewers and it was necessary that this feature film keeps the essence of this universe but can offer many surprises. This film also gives an important place to the character Phuddle an ingenious pan who asserts himself as the greatest inventor of all time and will help Mia and her friends in their fight against the powerful Toxor.

While our society is still stricken by a global pandemic of Covid 19 that continues indefinitely and the war in Ukraine continues to create inflation in different countries, the public really needs magic and a change of mind. Mia and me, the hero of Centopia is a family entertainment and allows us to discover a new adventure of Mia on the big screen. This young girl can transform herself into an elf in the magical world of the Unicorns of Centopia thanks to the power of a magic bracelet. This time her quest will take her and her friends to different places far from Centopia such as Storm Island, Bambleu Forest, Lotus Island and the Cave of Imprisonment. Each of these places will be revealing many surprises and will plunge the spectators into a universe reminiscent of The Neverending Story (1984) with the possible destruction of the whole universe of Centopia.

Of course, the animation does not reach the level of the current Hollywood productions but allows to spend a good moment with the family in a magical universe. The great quality of this European animated film is to benefit from a scenario able to hold our attention and to propose us numerous characters. We would have just appreciated a more adult recalibration of Mia's universe and not a work intended only for a very young public.
