Justin Bieber: Our World takes viewers backstage, onstage, and into the private world of the musical icon as he prepares for his unprecedented concert, T-Mobile Presents New Year's Eve Live with Justin Bieber. After a three-year hiatus from a full performance, and with concert venues shut down due to the pandemic, Bieber delivers an electrifying show to close out 2020 on the rooftop of the Beverly Hilton Hotel for 240 invited guests--and millions of fans across the globe watching via livestream. The film follows Bieber and his close-knit team in the month leading up to the show, as they rehearse and construct a monumental stage while adhering to strict health and safety protocols. The film also captures personal, self-shot moments between Bieber and his wife Hailey.

Mulder's Review

"Performing live and connecting with my fans through music is deeply meaningful to me. Especially over the past year, being able to provide a service and share my gifts to bring some happiness to people during such a sad and scary time has meant a lot to me. This film is a testament to an intense and exciting time, preparing to return to the stage in this season of real uncertainty. Coming together with my team, overcoming obstacles and putting on a special show, surrounded by my friends and family; it's all here." - Justin Bieber

Among the world's most adored musical artists Justin Bieber has been able to establish himself through perfectly calibrated songs but also for a recognizable voice and a musical style all his own. His debut album My World (2009) not only made a major global impact but also immediately made him a worldwide star. With six albums (My World 2.0 (2010), Under the Mistletoe (2011), Believe (2012), Purpose (2015), Changes (2020) and recently Justice (2021), Justin Bieber has established himself as one of the best-selling musical artists of all time (150 million records sold worldwide).

Winner of several prestigious awards such as two Grammy Awards, 18 American Music Awards, 21 Billboard Music Awards, six MTV Video Music Awards, Justin Bieber has become one of the most adored stars in the world and it is understandable that a documentary could be interesting if it showed another face of the artist and songs from a concert in the background.  This documentary focuses on the life of the global superstar and his first full concert in three years.

While we would have preferred to simply discover this concert recorded last December on the roof of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in front of 240 guests and millions of fans from all over the world connected, Justin Bieber: Our world prefers to focus on the backstage during the thirty days preceding this concert and to incorporate short excerpts from it. This return on stage after three years of absence of Justin Bieber shows that he has not lost any of his efficiency on stage and takes a real pleasure to cover his numerous hits. We will also appreciate that this documentary film presents us this artist in his intimacy and shows the importance of his wife Hailey to find a strong inspiration.

Produced and directed by the director Michael D. Ratner who has notably directed a series on Kevin Hart, Deli Lovato but also music videos and documentaries, Justin Bieber: Our world is a real pleasure to watch as its documentary approach allows us to better understand how important it is to stage a concert in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and to make sure that the spectators present at the venue are in their hotel room to attend the concert and not clumped together in a fake one or squeezed into seats in a hall. This original concept of staging this concert shows the inventiveness of the people behind it.

While the hits follow one another, we easily understand the fact that Justin Bieber was able to surround himself with an excellent team whether it is his choreographer, his sound engineers, his musicians or his backup singers. Justin Bieber: Our world gives us the impression of being in the front row of an excellent concert with an artist in great shape and who finds the pleasure of being on stage.
