The Forever Purge

The cinematic saga American Nightmare (The Purge) started in 2013 was able to easily find its audience and achieve some success by starting with a rather simplistic premise.  Distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes this saga written by James DeMonaco sets up a futuristic world in which during a 12-hour national holiday in the United States legalizes all crimes, including murder. While the previous installments took place in the middle of an urban setting, this new installment benefits from a concept as intelligent as it is innovative by moving to the middle of Texas. By tackling notions related to illegal immigration and by giving this opus a modern western feel, American Nightmare 5: Without Limits (The Forever Purge) shows a will to extend and enrich the universe of American Nightmare (The Purge). 

This new installment takes place eight years after the third installment during which the Purge was reinstated by the re-elected New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA). In response to these eight years without a Purge, an anti-immigrant hate group known as the Forever After Purge continues the Purge beyond the end of the Purge, taking control of the nation's major cities to begin what they call a cleansing of the country, which primarily targets immigrants. In such a context in which American minorities are beginning to make their rights worthwhile and point out a certain number of injustices in the United States, the observation of this film is without reminder and benefits from a perfectly mastered mise en scène. 

 After several short films and having directed episodes of series (Luke Cage, Sacred Lies, Mars, The Terror, Snowpiercer), Everardo Gout perfectly takes advantage of the means at hand and gives his film the appearance of a modern western in which characters will have to unite by putting aside their differences to succeed in staying alive and fighting against very armed people with questionable principles.

While other current horror sagas prefer to play on outrageous horrific scenes, The Purge prefers to rely on an anguishing climate in which anything can happen and no one can escape from an omnipresent danger. Far from wanting to apply the same operation as the previous films, the film benefits from excellent ideas like seeing the American people forced to immigrate to Mexico to escape a purge targeting the whole country. Once again the cast is not left out and the actress Ana de la Reguera, proves to be perfect in the role of Adela who proves to be despite her wise air a real fighter capable of facing the worst members of the Forever After Purge group. American Nightmare 5: No Limits (The Forever Purge) easily stands out as one of the best parts of this cinematographic saga and shows once again that Blumhouse has no equal when it comes to proposing excellent B-movies, both original and perfectly mastered.
