Mulder's Review

A series of grisly murders during the Gotham vacation season pushes the world's greatest detective into action - battling both organized crime and a mysterious murderer. Based on the iconic mid-1990s DC comic book series by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One begins with a brutal Halloween murder that prompts Gotham's young vigilante, Batman, to form a pact with the city's only two uncorrupted lawmen (Police Captain James Gordan and District Attorney Harvey Dent) to bring down The Roman, head of the notorious and powerful Falcone crime family. But when more deaths occur over Thanksgiving and Christmas, it becomes clear that instead of ordinary gang violence, they are dealing with a serial killer - whose identity, with each conflicting clue, becomes harder to discern. Few cases have tested the mind of the world's greatest detective like the mystery of the Holiday Killer.

With a screenplay by Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen, Superman: Man of Tomorrow), Chris Palmer (Superman: Man of Tomorrow) directs. Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One shows once again that animated films seem to be one of the best vectors to bring to life comics that have marked several generations of comic book readers. Aimed at an adult audience with its omnipresent graphic violence, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is not only a real cinematographic event but also one of the best animated films of this year and we regret not being able to discover it in theaters as visually and on the level of the scenario we have here a striking film in the Batman universe.

Of course this animated film takes a certain distance from the thirteen volumes of the saga Batman: The Long Halloween but uses many details of the comics, whether it is the real opposition between a young Bruce Wayne who will become a real detective and not only a vigilante operating to put an end to certain acts of the Gotham mafia, his opposition with Carmine Falcon. We also find the scene in which Batman and Harvey Dent set fire to a warehouse in which Falcone had hidden several million dollars. This first part has an excellent rhythm that allows the audience to immerse itself completely in the world of Batman.

The impressive voice cast in the original version brings an undeniable value to this excellent animated film. We find Jensen Ackles (Batman/Bruce Wayne). Naya Rivera (Glee) (Catwoman/Selina Kyle), Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Las Vegas) (Harvey Dent), Billy Burke (Twilight, Revolution, Zoo) (James Gordon), Titus Welliver (Bosch, Deadwood, The Town) (Carmine Falcone), David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Ant-Man, Dune, The Dark Knight) (Calendar Man), Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham Knight) (Joker=, Amy Landecker (Your Honor, Transparent) (Barbara Gordon), Julie Nathanson (Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay) (Gilda Dent), Jack Quaid (The Boys, The Hunger Games) (Alberto), Fred Tatasciore (American Dad! Family Guy) (Solomon Grundy), Jim Pirri (World of Warcraft franchise) (Sal Maroni), and Alastair Duncan (The Batman franchise, Batman Unlimited) (Alfred).

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is an undeniable success and we can't wait for July 27 to discover the sequel of The Long Halloween.
