"Bruce Willis was so generous with his time and talent. He really sought to inspire the younger He dug deep, taking big swings with the role. I love JL, he's got a heart of gold as big as his beautiful head and I can't wait to work with him again." - Edward Drake
Cosmic Sin places the action in the year 2524, four hundred years after humans began to colonize the outer planets. Retired military general James Ford (Bruce Willis) is recalled to duty after soldiers on a distant planet are attacked by a hostile alien fleet. The threat against the human race intensifies and turns into an inevitable interstellar war. General Ford teams up with General Eron Ryle (Frank Grillo) and an elite team of soldiers in a race to stop the impending attack before it is too late. This scenario without being really new gives a rather solid base to a science fiction movie intended for a direct release in video and in a few theaters in the United States as soon as March 12th.
For his third feature film for which he co-writes the script after having signed several music videos and Animals (2012) and Broil (2020), Edward Drake, despite a limited budget, proves to be a rather talented storyteller and he benefits here from spectacular special effects and especially from the presence of two good actors that are Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo. Cosmic Sin is once again about a confrontation between humans and extraterrestrials, but mixes the genres by including a good dose of western with his antisocial anti-hero played by Bruce Willis, but also war films with this over-trained military team plunging into a conflict that goes beyond them.
After an introductory scene worthy of a horror movie in which two humans find themselves facing an extraterrestrial threat, Cosmic Sin is gradually moving towards a military science fiction movie with its suits reminiscent of both Edge of tomorrow (2014) and Elusium (2013). Some scenes in this film also remind us of certain video games with its precisely filmed confrontations. However, as the plot unfolds, we would have preferred to have some important twists and turns and especially more scenes between the characters played by Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo. The fact remains that Cosmic Sin easily imposes itself as one of the best films seen recently with Bruce Willis and in which this great actor seems not to invest himself as much in his roles and prefers to follow B productions shot quickly in which his presence requires only a few days of filming.
With its short duration and a last part that is not totally mastered, Cosmic Sin is a good B series with its lot of action scenes and very successful special effects. The only thing missing is a less disjointed rhythm and surely a will to really impress the spectators than to deliver a movie whose only goal is to entertain and have a good evening.
