Written and directed by Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr. who signs here his first production and discovered during the Sundance Festival, Wild Indian shows us how two men learn to face a traumatic secret they share about the savage murder of one of their classmate. The screenplay is a psychological study of a young Native American boy who, after having committed a murder in the past, yet manages to succeed in life and climb the social ladder. In the lead role Michael Greyeyes reminds us a bit of Patrick Bateman's character in American Psycho (2000) and proves to be a perfect choice.
Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr. delivers a thriller that is breathtaking, in which appearances are often deceptive and success at all costs seems to be at the center of everything. With renowned actors in supporting roles such as Jesse Eisenberg, Wild indian stands out as a film in its own right that perfectly captures our attention. With a striking and bewitching visual style that evokes both fascination and fear, Wild Indian considers the cost of survival in today's society. It's a truly chilling experience.
Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr.'s clean staging provides a sharp critique of our society in which nothing seems to be what it is. Makwa has long since lost his innocence and no longer seems to be able to discern right from wrong in his desire to blend into a comfortable life. Wild indian fascinates as much as it repels, but allows us to discover a director, Lyle Mitchell Corbine Jr. with strong potential.
