Mulder's Review

"I guess any movie reflects its moment, whether you consciously want it to or not, but this even more so. I think it will be a time capsule for the ages. We're living through this time of great political upheaval, and that's maybe at the forefront of our thoughts. But for a lot of people, the lived day-to-day experience, which is what I'm hoping we'll capture in the film, is not going to be about those big issues, at least not directly. It's going to be about, you know, 'it's bath time for the baby,' or, 'what do I do on my Saturday off,' or, 'I don't have enough food to eat, and here's how I get by.' I always say to people, 'What's boring to you, what's normal to you, is gonna be fascinating to other people. " - Kevin Macdonald

As part of the Sundance festival we were able to discover the documentary film by Kevin MacDonald produced by Ridley Scott, Life in a day 2020. This film has a real particularity because it is composed of videos filmed by the public and that the director has selected with a certain choice. It is the sequel in a way to the film Life in a day to be released in 2011. The main idea of this film is to show what happens on a specific day of the year 2020. In this case, July 25, 2020. Using the same concept of the original film, Life in a Day 2020 is an ambitious documentary full of humanity that celebrates in its own way being alive and standing tall despite a global pandemic that has changed our lives forever.

Director Kevin Macdonald and his team had to watch 15,000 hours of footage submitted from 192 countries and produced in collaboration with YouTube and Ridley Scott's RSA Films. The editing of Nse Asuquo, Mdhamiri Á Nkemi, Sam Rice-Edwards is an important part of the project's success because it had to show a logical angle of evolution from the selected videos. The result is an important sense of connectedness and that the world is moving forward together. Life in spite of this difficult period continues and everyone is expressing themselves in their own way to face this global pandemic. This film stands out as an exciting documentary because it succeeds in creating a sense of belonging and a reflection of ourselves, a real sense of connectivity to a global society. By showing us our daily life, our little worries, births, disappointments, it is simply life that this documentary celebrates.
