Mulder's Review

It is interesting to see that the British virtual festival Frighfest welcomes in its selection this year films from all countries and tackling different genres whether it is the horror thriller, the fantasy film, the science fiction film. The first Argentinian film co-written and directed by Luciana Garraza, Eric Fleitas resembles the unlikely cross between Mad Max (1979) and a horror film with a revenge film with a ruthless killer who lets his murderous impulses express themselves freely.

In a post-apocalyptic future in which society has been devastated by disease and economic crisis, Tisha is an organ trafficker and ignores the faces of her victims whom she stabs to steal parts of their bodies. The money she collects is earmarked for a specific purpose: to find out the whereabouts of the brutal cartel that murdered her family. Once found, she will exact radical revenge.

Directed by Luciana Garraza, Eric Fleitas will stop at nothing to deliver an ultra-violent film and despite the lack of means and rough sets, one must admit that the final result does not demerit. Of course, we would have liked a slightly more accomplished scenario and a less hasty editing but Scavenger keeps its promises and allows us to have a good time in front of a hybrid film whose violence and massive outpouring of blood will remind us of Peter Jackson's first films.
