The virtual British festival FrightFest has not only had the vocation to put American, Canadian and English cinema in the spotlight, but it has also opened up to other countries such as Denmark with the second film Jens Dahl after 3 ting (2017).
In Breeder, we discover that a renowned dietary supplement company, run by a ruthless businesswoman, selects and kidnaps young women in an experiment to bio-hack the DNA of babies to allow its clients to reverse the aging process. When Mia goes on site to investigate, she finds herself trapped, branded and tortured in a sinister underground facility. Familiar faces begin to appear, and she realizes she is not alone in this situation.
Breeder shows that Danish cinema has nothing to envy French cinema. Jens Dahl's meticulous staging, supported by Sara Hjort Ditlevsen's very convincing interpretation, allows us to immerse ourselves in this stifling thriller that lets ourselves be watched. Once again, the Frighfest festival allows quality films that would otherwise go unnoticed to find their audience and above all to show that it's not only American cinema that counts, European cinema is just as important and striking.
