Redeemer

I was given the chance to review a new movie coming out, The Redeemer, from Dark Sky Films (a subsidiary of The MPI Media Group) and upon reading a blurb about it, it sounded like a pretty interesting movie.

The movie stars Tae Kwon Do scholar and kick-boxer Marko Zaror, as a Pardo, a former cartel hitman turned vigilante who quotes Bible lyrics while making criminals pay either beg for mercy or pay for their crimes as he hunts down his former employers. The movie was directed by Ernesto Díaz Espinoza and was filmed in 2014 in Chile.

One of the first action scenes starts with a group of 4 men attempting to rape a young woman, when a hooded vigilante walks in and stops them. And stops them he does, in a semi violent way, involving broken bottles, baseball bats and martial arts moves. This scene set the tone for how Pardo will dispatch his foes throughout the movie in his pursuit of the cartel members who formerly employed him. Throughout the movie we see Marko put his knowledge of martial arts to good use, including quite a few fight scenes involving Pardo various villains. We also see flashbacks throughout the movie involving an villain who forces people to either kill themselves, or die in very violent ways. One of those scenes involves Pardo and his wife.

Overall, I thought the movie was good, some good action scenes as well as an interesting storyline and main character in Pardo.
