Lego - A LEGO® Icons The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith™ set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cult classic saga

By Mulder, 12 may 2026

As the world of The Lord of the Rings continues to resonate across generations with surprising relevance, the LEGO Group is making a major splash among collectors and fantasy enthusiasts with the official announcement of the LEGO® Icons The Lord of the Rings: Minas Tirith™ set, a monumental 8,278-piece model conceived as a true love letter to Middle-earth. Developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, this new premium model celebrates the 25th anniversary of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, whose cultural impact remains immense to this day, both in the realm of fantasy cinema and in that of high-end merchandise. From the very first images revealed, the set impresses with its architectural ambition and its aim to capture the grandeur of the legendary White City of Gondor with a level of detail rarely seen in an official LEGO set, once again confirming the Danish manufacturer’s recent strategy clearly targeting adult collectors passionate about pop culture and cinema.

Designed as a massive display model for the most dedicated fans, the set recreates the famous fortress of Minas Tirith as it appears in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, with its terraced ramparts, spectacular verticality, and citadel overlooking the city. Whereas some previous LEGO sets inspired by the franchise focused primarily on playability, this new creation takes a much more museum-like and cinematic approach, with meticulous attention to scale that allows it to recreate both the vastness of the city when viewed from afar and certain iconic spaces visible up close, notably the throne room. This dual visual perspective is likely one of the most fascinating aspects of the project, as it directly echoes the way Peter Jackson and the teams at Weta Workshop designed the miniatures and sets for the films in the early 2000s to bring the grandeur of Gondor to life on screen. One can sense in this construction a genuine desire to recreate that sense of vastness and wonder that left such a lasting impression on audiences when the original trilogy was released.

The set also includes ten minifigures representing several major characters from the saga, including Gandalf the White, Faramir, Denethor, Peregrin Took, Aragorn Elessar, and Arwen, accompanied by four soldiers of Gondor as well as the legendary horse Gripoil. This choice of characters is obviously no coincidence, as it directly references the events of the Siege of Minas Tirith, one of the most iconic moments in the film and literary saga. For several years, fans have been clamoring for a modern and ambitious representation of this mythical city in the LEGO line, with some even going so far as to create gigantic custom versions displayed at specialized conventions. With this new official model, LEGO seems to have perfectly understood the expectations of its adult community, particularly following the commercial success of previous sets inspired by Barad-dûr and Rivendell, which had already demonstrated the license’s enormous commercial potential among collectors.

Beyond the main build, the marketing campaign surrounding the launch also shows just how much LEGO and Warner Bros. Discovery are banking on turning this release into a major event. Members of the LEGO Insiders program will be able to access the set starting June 1, 2026, ahead of a global release scheduled for June 4 at a price of €649.99, immediately positioning the product among the most prestigious and expensive LEGO sets in the current catalog. To accompany this launch, a particularly symbolic gift will be offered between June 1 and 7 with the LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Grond set, recreating the famous war ram used by Sauron’s armies during the siege of Minas Tirith. This small bonus build, which also includes two Orc minifigures, is a nod particularly appreciated by fans of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, often considered one of the greatest battle sequences in the entire history of modern fantasy cinema.

The timing of this announcement is obviously no coincidence, as it coincides with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the trilogy that began with *The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring*, selected in 2021 by the U.S. Library of Congress to be preserved in the National Film Registry due to its cultural and historical significance. The saga adapted from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien remains one of the most award-winning franchises in film history, with 17 Oscars and over $6 billion in cumulative global box office revenue. This renewed interest in Middle-earth also comes at a strategic moment for Warner Bros. Pictures, which is actively preparing the franchise’s return to the big screen with *The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum*, expected in the coming years. In this context, the proliferation of collector’s items and special events clearly helps maintain the franchise’s visibility and emotional appeal among both longtime fans and new generations.

Fans will also be able to attend a live Q&A session on May 12 at 6 p.m. with the LEGO designers behind the project, an event that should provide insight into the technical challenges faced during the design of this massive reproduction of Minas Tirith. At the same time, LEGO Insiders members can enter a special contest offering an all-inclusive trip to Hobbiton in New Zealand, the iconic filming location for the movies, as well as the entire LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings collection. This initiative perfectly illustrates how modern licensing is no longer limited to simply selling merchandise but now seeks to offer a comprehensive immersive experience blending collecting, nostalgia, film tourism, and community engagement. With its impressive dimensions of 59 cm in height, 62 cm in width, and 37 cm in depth, this LEGO Icons Minas Tirith already stands out as one of the major events of the year for collectors of movie merchandise and could well become one of the most coveted pieces ever produced based on Middle-earth.
