Serie - Alien: Earth – A Bold New Chapter in the Alien Franchise Revealed with Official Poster

By Mulder, 26 january 2025

The wait for the next evolution of the Alien franchise is almost over as FX on Hulu and Disney+ have unveiled the official poster for Alien: Earth, an ambitious prequel series created, written, and directed by the acclaimed Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion). This new series is poised to take audiences back to the terrifying origins of the Alien saga, set two years before Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking 1979 masterpiece. The poster’s stark and haunting imagery teases the series' intense blend of science fiction and horror, reigniting interest in the mythology that has captivated fans for decades.

Alien: Earth shifts the focus to our own planet, as a mysterious spaceship crash-lands, throwing humanity into a nightmare of discovery and survival. A young woman, portrayed by Sydney Chandler (Don't Worry Darling), and a group of tactical soldiers uncover a horrifying truth that pits them against the planet's greatest existential threat. Staying true to the tone of the original Alien film, Hawley’s prequel seeks to emphasize the haunting isolation, primal fear, and gritty realism that defined the franchise’s early entries. Unlike the Prometheus and Alien: Covenant prequels, Alien: Earth promises a return to the stripped-down terror of Scott’s 1979 classic, focusing on its style, atmosphere, and narrative simplicity. Hawley’s approach has drawn excitement from fans eager for a deep dive into the Alien mythos without veering too far into the high-concept ideas of recent entries.

The series features an impressive ensemble cast led by Sydney Chandler, with Alex Lawther (The End of the F**ing World*), Samuel Blenkin (House of the Dragon), Essie Davis (The Babadook), and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) in key roles. Timothy Olyphant (Justified), David Rysdahl (No Exit), and Kit Young (Shadow and Bone) add further depth to the roster. The supporting cast includes Babou Ceesay, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille, and Adrian Edmondson. Behind the camera, Hawley serves as showrunner and director, working closely with legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott, who joins the series as an executive producer. Cinematographer Steve Annis and composer Jeff Russo, known for their atmospheric and visually compelling work, will elevate the tension and horror of the series. The show is a collaborative effort between 20th Television, Scott Free Productions, and FXP, with distribution handled by FX on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally through its Star hub.

The journey to bring Alien: Earth to the screen has not been without its challenges. Originally announced during Disney's 2020 Investor Day presentation, the series faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Principal photography, initially planned for March 2022, finally began in Thailand in July 2023. Notably, the series continued production during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, thanks to its predominantly British cast working under Equity contracts. However, even this workaround could not prevent filming from being halted temporarily in late August 2023 due to the strike. Production resumed in April 2024 and wrapped by mid-July, with a 16-second teaser premiering during select screenings of Alien: Romulus in August 2024. The teaser, which confirmed a 2025 release, offered fans their first glimpse of the show’s chilling aesthetic and set the stage for its debut.

With its return to the horror roots of the Alien franchise, Alien: Earth aims to captivate both long-time fans and newcomers. The prequel’s focus on Earth introduces a new dimension to the Alien mythology, expanding the universe while staying grounded in the franchise's core themes of survival, fear, and humanity's vulnerability against unknown threats. Hawley’s narrative vision, combined with Ridley Scott’s iconic creative influence, ensures a series that honors the franchise’s legacy while delivering something fresh and terrifying.

As anticipation builds for the series’ 2025 debut, fans can look forward to a gripping and visually stunning prequel that bridges the gap between the franchise's early lore and its enduring legacy. With Hawley’s expert storytelling, a compelling cast, and top-tier production design, Alien: Earth is set to become one of the most talked-about television events of the year. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the series' highly anticipated release on FX on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ internationally.
