Hasbro - Celebrate 40 years of Ghostbusters with a deluxe Anniversary Edition Collector's Ectomobile

By Mulder, 18 october 2024

Hasbro is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie and the 35th anniversary of Ghostbusters 2 with a HasLab campaign dedicated to one of the most iconic movie vehicles: the Ectomobile. For the occasion, Hasbro is offering an anniversary edition collector's version of the iconic vehicle, available in two versions. Fans can choose between a basic model at €369.99 inc. VAT or a deluxe model at €469.99 inc. VAT, both including delivery charges for Hasbro Pulse Premium members. The campaign, which runs from October 18 to December 3, 2024, requires a minimum of 12,000 sponsors for the project to succeed. If this target is reached, orders will be validated and manufacturing will begin, with delivery scheduled for December 2025.

The Plasma Series Ectomobile is a replica carefully designed to offer an immersive experience for fans and collectors. The model comes with a host of film-accurate accessories, complete with working lights and sounds. The base model includes the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Ecto-1 vehicle, 1984 Ecto-1 hubcaps, a removable sliding stretcher and a sheet of stickers for the 1984 Ecto-1. Fans will also be able to add to their collection a Library Ghost figurine with base, stack of books and library book, as well as a Slimer figurine, both accompanied by their bases.

The deluxe model offers an even more complete experience, with additional accessories from both Ghostbusters films. In addition to the basic model elements, Ghostbusters 2 fans will appreciate an Ecto-1A roof conversion kit with working lights, a red Ecto-1A rear bumper with Ecto-1A license plate, and a sticker sheet for the 1989 Ecto-1A. Other accessories include two Ghostbusters Plasma Series Ecto-Charger packs, two ecto-plasm effects, and four hubcaps for the 1989 Ecto-1A. The deluxe model also includes iconic items from Ghostbusters 2, such as a toaster, a thermal mug for hot drinks, and even a children's balloon, recalling cult scenes from the film.
T
he deluxe edition also includes a set of four Plasma Series Ghostbusters 2 figures: Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Egon Spengler and Peter Venkman. These figurines feature new heads and charcoal-colored suits, and come with four packs of protons and proton effects, to recreate the film's key moments. Fans will also be treated to two additional Ecto-Charger packs and two ecto-plasm effects for total immersion in the ghost hunter universe.

The car, which measures 57 cm in length, is much more than a simple replica. Hasbro's design team worked in collaboration with Ghost Corps, the studio behind the Ghostbusters universe, to ensure a meticulously faithful reproduction of the Ecto-1. The designers even visited and photographed a real Ectomobile to capture every possible detail. The final model includes functional lights, headlights, taillights, parking lights, strobes and spotlights. The doors and hood are also openable, revealing a finely detailed interior and engine. Every aspect of the car, from the front with its functional steering wheel to the rear with its folding seats, has been carefully reproduced. The interior, equally elaborate, includes features such as a CB radio, heater, telephone with portable receiver, and even a removable oscilloscope.

Collectors will also be delighted to discover two new figures in the Plasma Series range. The library ghost, the first spectre encountered in the film, is reproduced with 7 points of articulation and an ethereal design inspired by the film. It comes with a base, a stack of books and a library book. The Slimer figurine, aka the Green Ghost, is also included in the collection. This iconic character, who left his mark on the Ghostbusters universe, is represented with 4 points of articulation and a design faithful to his appearance in the films, and includes a base for optimal display in the collections.

In addition, Hasbro is offering a special early bird offer for the first two weeks of the campaign. If the campaign reaches its target of 12,000 sponsors within the first 14 days, all contributors will receive an exclusive figurine of Louis Tully, the bumbling accountant and unofficial fifth ghost hunter, played by Rick Moranis in the films. This 15 cm-scale figurine includes a proton pack, an ecto-plasm effect, a ghost trap and a P.K.E. detector, enough to delight even the most nostalgic fans.

Hasbro has already offered a number of successful HasLab projects based on the Ghostbusters franchise, such as the Spengler Proton Pack and the Ghost Trap, both of which were a huge success. This third project marks an important milestone for Hasbro in its tribute to the franchise, with particular attention paid to every detail to satisfy fans. This anniversary edition of the Ectomobile offers not only a faithful replica of the cult vehicle, but also accessories and figurines to recreate the atmosphere of the films.

The Ectomobile is a true cultural icon, and this 15 cm scale replica is designed to become a must-have collector's item for all fans of the franchise. With advanced features, lights, sounds and a host of details, Hasbro has managed to capture the essence of this iconic vehicle. Ghostbusters fans can help fund this HasLab campaign and add this unique piece to their collection, while celebrating 40 years of scares and giggles. Don't miss your chance to join this adventure and add the Ectomobile to your collection! The project is open to all residents of the European Union, with deliveries scheduled for December 2025.

The Ghostbusters saga is a cult film franchise that began in 1984 with the eponymous film directed by Ivan Reitman. This first film, with its unique blend of comedy, science fiction and paranormal elements, quickly became a cultural phenomenon. The story follows a group of eccentric parapsychologists - played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - who decide to set up a ghost-catching business in New York. With its iconic lines, memorable characters and famous Ecto-1 car, Ghostbusters has become firmly rooted in the collective imagination. Ray Parker Jr.'s title song, “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!”, remains one of the most recognizable songs in film history. The film's success soon led to a sequel in 1989, Ghostbusters II, which saw the team reform to face a new supernatural threat. Although this sequel didn't have the cultural impact of the first film, it consolidated the Ghostbusters universe.

Over the years, the saga has expanded with animated series adaptations such as The Real Ghostbusters, video games, comic books, and a host of derivative products. In 2016, an all-female reboot, directed by Paul Feig, saw the light of day with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the new team of ghostbusters. The film sparked heated debate among fans, but helped keep the franchise in the modern cinema landscape. In 2021, Ghostbusters: Afterlife (or Ghostbusters: Legacy), directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, revisited the original universe by introducing a new generation, while paying homage to the 80s films with several returns of classic characters. The Ghostbusters saga thus remains a pillar of pop culture, and its distinctive blend of comedy and the paranormal continues to captivate old and new generations of viewers alike.
