Max has officially announced the premiere of City of God: The Fight Rages On, a highly anticipated HBO Original series, set to debut on Sunday, August 25th. The series, produced by O2 Filmes, is a continuation of the critically acclaimed 2002 film City of God and will be available for streaming globally on Max.

Set two decades after the events of the original film, City of God: The Fight Rages On follows Wilson "Rocket" Rodrigues, now a successful photojournalist, as he returns to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The series explores the ongoing conflicts between drug traffickers, militias, and public authorities through the lens of Rocket's photography, documenting the impact on the community's residents. The show will unfold over six episodes, with new installments released weekly until September 29th.

Featuring an ensemble cast including Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, and Andréia Horta, the series also introduces fresh talent from Rio's communities. Directed by Aly Muritiba, with a script by Sérgio Machado, Renata Di Carmo, and others, the series promises to deliver a powerful narrative of resilience and resistance, echoing the themes of the original film while delving into the complex realities of modern-day Rio de Janeiro.

Synopsis :
The daily life of a group of teenagers living in a favela in Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s. The entire community is torn apart by conflicts between drug traffickers, police and militiamen, but adopts a position of collective resistance, through the eyes of its inhabitants.
