With the Star Wars anthem, Camille Cottin opened the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival. “In a galaxy far far away, episode 77,” the actress begins. It's now time for the "interstellar celebration" for "twenty-two rebels" (the films in competition), decided by "eight Jedi" and a "Mistress Yoda".
The Americans came out in force this year at the Cannes Film Festival. The Palme d’Or went to one of them: Sean Baker. This choice was surprising. The film “Seeds of the Wild Fig Tree” by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof made a strong impression. The director, who had to flee Iran, is rewarded with the Special Jury Prize. Director Payal Kapadia wins the Grand Prize, with this beautiful story of sorority, delicately staged. Jacques Audiard and his actresses are rewarded with two prizes. Emilia Perez, a musical comedy and action film about the transition of a Mexican drug trafficker, also made a strong impression during its screening.
Faced with this prize list, which will not mark the history of the festival, the emotional moment of the evening was the presentation of the Palm of Honor to George Lucas by his friend Francis Ford Coppola.
