In a thrilling fusion of nostalgia and contemporary cinematic brilliance, Twisters, an upcoming American disaster film, is set to captivate audiences globally with its release on July 19, 2024. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung and written by Mark L. Smith, the film promises an exhilarating experience that combines cutting-edge technology with the raw power of Mother Nature.

Produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, Twisters serves as a standalone sequel to the iconic 1996 film Twister. The star-studded cast includes Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, and Nik Dodani.

The journey to bring Twisters to the big screen began in June 2020 when a remake of the original film was announced by Universal Pictures, with Joseph Kosinski initially in negotiations to direct. Fast forward to October 2022, and Twisters was officially unveiled, with Mark L. Smith penning the script and Lee Isaac Chung taking the helm as director.

The film introduces a fresh perspective on the tale, incorporating climate change into its gripping plot. Mark L. Smith stated, I talked to so many storm experts, tornado experts, storm chasers...the storms themselves are more violent. So we did use elements of that just to shine a light on it, as well, the causes and effects of climate change.

Joining the cast in March 2023, Daisy Edgar-Jones takes on the lead role, supported by a talented ensemble including Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, and David Corenswet.

The film faced a brief hiccup during production when filming was suspended in July 2023 due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. However, the team resumed filming with the conclusion of the strike in November 2023, successfully wrapping up the project the following month.

Twisters is a joint-venture production between Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Amblin Entertainment, and The Kennedy/Marshall Company. Universal and Warner Bros. will switch distribution roles, with Universal handling North America and Warner Bros. overseeing international distribution.

Cinematography by Dan Mindel and editing by Terilyn A. Shropshire promise a visually stunning and tightly woven narrative. The film is estimated to have a budget of $200 million, showcasing a commitment to delivering an unparalleled cinematic experience.
