In the highly anticipated American science fiction action comedy film Borderlands, directed by Eli Roth and set to release on August 9, 2024, Lionsgate Films is gearing up to take audiences on an intergalactic adventure like never before. The film, based on the popular video game series developed by Gearbox Software, boasts an ensemble cast featuring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The storyline follows Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, as she reluctantly returns to her tumultuous home planet of Pandora. The journey of bringing Borderlands to the big screen has been a rollercoaster ride. After initial discussions in 2015, the film finally gained traction in February 2020, with Eli Roth attached to direct and a star-studded cast assembled over the following months. Filming officially commenced on April 1, 2021, in Budapest, Hungary, amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, wrapping up on June 22 of the same year.

However, the adventure didn't end there. In January 2023, the film underwent two weeks of reshoots directed by Tim Miller, as Eli Roth was committed to another project. Despite Roth not being directly involved, he remained attached to the film and gave Miller his blessing. Joe Crombie replaced Craig Mazin in the screenwriting department during the reshoots, and additional literary contributions were acknowledged from various writers.

Musical notes also played a part in the film's journey, with Nathan Barr initially set to score the film, but in October 2023, it was announced that Steve Jablonsky would take over the scoring duties.

As the film's release date approaches, excitement is building, fueled by exclusive footage shown during Lionsgate's panel at the 2022 CinemaCon. Test screenings held on November 9, 2022, further fueled anticipation for what promises to be a thrilling and comedic cinematic experience.
