Paramount+ - Knuckles : A Sonic Spin-Off Set to Hit Paramount+ in April 2024

In a thrilling development for Sonic the Hedgehog fans, an upcoming American television miniseries titled Knuckles is set to premiere on Paramount+ on April 26, 2024. Created by John Whittington and Toby Ascher, the series is based on the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog video game series published by Sega and is a spin-off of the recently released film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022).

The series boasts the return of Idris Elba, who reprises his voice role as Knuckles the Echidna, and Adam Pally, reprising his role as Wade from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Set between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024), Knuckles follows Knuckles as he trains deputy sheriff Wade Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior.

The star-studded cast includes Rory McCann as The Buyer, a former lackey of Doctor Robotnik determined to obtain Knuckles' power. Tika Sumpter takes on the role of Maddie Wachowski, Knuckles' adoptive mother and the local veterinarian of Green Hills. Ben Schwartz returns as the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog, with Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles Tails Prower, and Christopher Lloyd as Pachacamac the Echidna, an older echidna believed to have perished with his tribe.

Additionally, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel join the ensemble in undisclosed roles, adding an extra layer of anticipation for fans eagerly awaiting the miniseries.

Actor Idris Elba, not only reprising his role as Knuckles but also serving as an executive producer, brings an extra level of commitment to the project. The announcement of the series came during a ViacomCBS investor event in February 2022, with production officially commencing in London, England, in April 2023.

The series is in capable hands, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 co-writer John Whittington leading as the developer and head writer. Executive producers include Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher of Original Film, Jeff Fowler, Toru Nakahara, and of course, Idris Elba.

As fans eagerly await the April 26th premiere, the series promises to deliver not only on the action-packed adventures of Knuckles but also to include Easter eggs that set up the events and narrative of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024). The miniseries will consist of six episodes, ensuring an immersive experience for viewers.
