Paramount Pictures today released the teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the third in a series of action-adventure films based on Sega's beloved video game franchise, to the delight of Sonic fans worldwide.

Directed by Jeff Fowler and written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington, the film will bring back the dynamic cast from the previous movies, including James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, and the incomparable Jim Carrey reprising their roles.

Plans for the third Sonic movie were revealed in February 2022 during ViacomCBS's investor event, shortly before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022. The filming process kicked off in July 2023 in Surrey, England, for the animated characters, while live-action scenes were captured in various locations, including London, Los Angeles, Japan, and Norway.

The film's voice cast boasts the return of Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles Tails Prower, and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. The live-action cast includes James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, Jim Carrey as the eccentric Dr. Ivo Eggman Robotnik, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, among others.

Excitingly, new additions to the cast have been revealed, with Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone taking on undisclosed roles.

Fans were thrilled to learn that Jim Carrey, who had earlier hinted at retiring from acting, would indeed reprise his role as the iconic Dr. Robotnik. Producers Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher expressed their commitment to keeping Carrey's role intact, expressing hope that the scripts would entice him to continue in the series.

Filming faced a minor setback due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, with second-unit filming commencing in Surrey, England, in late July 2023 for animated characters only. Principal photography with physical actors began on November 29, 2023, marked by the reveal of a teaser image featuring Shadow the Hedgehog's stand-in statue.

Adding to the anticipation, Tom Holkenborg, the composer behind the first two films, was confirmed in January 2024 to be returning to score Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
