In a celebration of outstanding achievements in the realm of film composition and songwriting, the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) is set to honor legendary director Martin Scorsese and iconic musician Robbie Robertson with the esteemed Spirit of Collaboration Award. The 5th Annual SCL Awards, scheduled for Tuesday, February 13 at the Skirball Cultural Center, will recognize the duo's remarkable partnership that has spanned several decades, producing a prolific body of work that includes cinematic masterpieces such as Raging Bull, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, The Irishman, and the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon.
The Spirit of Collaboration Award, which acknowledges exceptional composer-director relationships, has previously been bestowed upon illustrious pairs such as Thomas Newman & Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard & Spike Lee, Carter Burwell & the Coen Brothers, and last year's recipients Justin Hurwitz & Damien Chazelle.
The 5th SCL Awards align closely with this year's Oscar-nominated songwriters and composers, featuring notable names such as Billie Eilish & Finneas O’Connell for Barbie, Jon Batiste for American Symphony, Diane Warren for Flamin’ Hot, Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt for Barbie, Laura Karpman for American Fiction, Ludwig Göransson for Oppenheimer, and the late Robbie Robertson for Killers of the Flower Moon.

The event, hosted by Oscar-nominated singer/songwriter Siedah Garrett, promises an evening filled with performances, presentations by legendary composers and songwriters, and appearances by special guests. Garrett, a Grammy-winning and two-time Oscar-nominated songwriter, is also a member of the SCL. Her notable collaborations include reuniting with Quincy Jones on The Color Purple and working with Jones on Michael Jackson’s iconic 1987 album Bad.
The SCL, founded 79 years ago, stands as the primary organization for professional composers and lyricists in the fields of film, television, video games, and musical theater. Committed to education and addressing issues affecting the music for visual media community, the SCL boasts a membership of top creatives in the industry. For more information, visit thescl.com.
