Directed by visionary James Wan, the creative force behind the first Aquaman installment, this highly anticipated sequel is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, with a release date of December 22, 2023 in the U.S. and December 2 in France. 

In this cinematic journey, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" appears as the 15th and final installment of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Set several years after the events of 2018 blockbuster "Aquaman", the story follows Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa, as he faces new challenges. Forced to protect Atlantis and his loved ones, Arthur must face the consequences of an ancient power unleashed by David Kane, also known as Black Manta, who obtains the cursed Black Trident. To complete this perilous journey, Arthur forges an unlikely alliance with his half-brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson.

The genesis of the film goes back to Jason Momoa's convincing presentation of the story during the production of "Aquaman" (2018). Director James Wan, favoring quality over haste, agreed to oversee development in January 2019. The return of screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick reinforced the desire to expand the Aquaman universe. Filming began in June 2021, in the UK, Hawaii, Los Angeles, New Jersey and New Zealand, and wrapped in January 2022.

The entire cast, with Jason Momoa reprising his role as Arthur Curry / Aquaman, alongside Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman, promises to deliver captivating performances. This talented cast revives beloved characters and introduces new faces to the underwater realm.

Amid rumors and petitions, Amber Heard, who plays Mera, faced difficulties but ultimately retained her role, demonstrating her resilience. The film's development underwent delays, reshoots and strategic adjustments, underlining the creative team's unwavering commitment to delivering a compelling cinematic experience.

Early pre-sales indicate strong anticipation, with projections suggesting an opening between $32 and $42 million. The film should build on the success of its predecessor, captivating audiences with its scale, immersive narrative and breathtaking action sequences.

While speculation rages over the potential conclusion of the Aquaman film series, Jason Momoa remains true to his character. As the DC Universe (DCU) introduces new narrative possibilities, Momoa's future as Aquaman remains uncertain, generating heightened anticipation for how the story will unfold in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom".

The first trailer, unveiled on September 14, 2023, gives a tantalizing glimpse of the film's grandeur, highlighting the unique "bromance" between Arthur and Orm. Director James Wan assures fans that the relationship between Arthur and his half-brother Orm will offer a fresh perspective compared to the first installment.

Synopsis
James Wan and Jason Momoa return for a spectacular cinematic experience in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Black Manta, still haunted by the desire to avenge his father, is now more powerful than ever with the legendary Black Trident in his hands.
