Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed the first trailer of the upcoming movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, an adrenaline-pumping post-apocalyptic action adventure film co-produced and directed by the visionary George Miller. Co-written by Miller and Nico Lathouris, the film serves as both a spin-off and a prequel to the acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), marking the fifth installment in the iconic Mad Max franchise. The film is set to hit theaters in Australia on 23 May 2024, followed by a United States release on 24 May 2024.
In a world plunging into chaos, Furiosa unfolds the gripping tale of a young Furiosa, snatched from the sanctuary of the Green Place of Many Mothers into the clutches of the ruthless Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Amidst the power struggle between two tyrants for control over the Citadel, Furiosa embarks on a harrowing journey through the Wasteland, navigating treacherous trials as she plots her way back home.
Anya Taylor-Joy commands the screen as Imperator Furiosa, joined by the charismatic Chris Hemsworth as the menacing Warlord Dementus. The supporting cast includes Alyla Browne, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus, Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic, and the talented Quaden Bayles, among others. Notably, a younger version of Immortan Joe, portrayed by Hugh Keays-Byrne in "Mad Max: Fury Road," is set to make a chilling appearance.
The development of Furiosa began with casting auditions in March 2020, as George Miller utilized Skype to identify the perfect lead. Anya Taylor-Joy's stellar performance earned her the coveted title role, supported by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke in key roles. The film boasts the return of several Fury Road crew members, including screenwriter Nico Lathouris, film editor Margaret Sixel, and composer Tom Holkenborg.
Production highlights include a record-setting AU$175 million filming incentive, with the film's total expenditure reaching an unprecedented US$233 million (AU$343.2 million) in Australia, making it the country's most substantial film production to date.
Shot against the stunning backdrop of the New South Wales towns of Hay and Silverton, often considered a ghost town, Furiosa undertook an epic filming journey. Principal photography spanned from June to October 2022, with the film officially wrapping on 28 October 2022.
Warner Bros. Pictures proudly presents Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in theaters across Australia on 23 May 2024 and in the United States on 24 May 2024. Originally slated for release on 23 June 2023, the film promises an exhilarating cinematic experience that fans of the Mad Max franchise won't want to miss.
