The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) is thrilled to announce the eagerly awaited list of nominees for the 2023 awards, celebrating outstanding achievements in music composed for film and other visual media. The prestigious ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. (PST) at The Avalon, 1735 Vine Street, in the heart of Hollywood, California.

This year's roster of song nominees includes an array of esteemed talents, including Oscar-winners Billie Eilish and Finneas for their captivating composition What Was I Made For? from the film Barbie, and the dynamic duo of Olivia Rodrigo and Dan Nigro for their enthralling song Can't Catch Me Now from Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Joining this impressive lineup are Justin Timberlake, Alan Menken, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Lenny Kravitz, Diane Warren, Metro Boomin, and A$AP Rocky, each recognized for their original contributions to the world of cinema.

Composers in the spotlight feature some of the industry's finest, including Alexandre Desplat, Michael Giacchino, Ludwig Göransson, Laura Karpman, Branford Marsalis, Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard, Daniel Pemberton, John Powell, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Robbie Robertson, Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt, and Hans Zimmer for The Creator, among others.

Nominated films across various categories encompass a wide range of talent and creativity. In the Score – Feature Film category, titles like American Fiction, Chevalier, Killers Of The Flower Moon, Nyad, Oppenheimer, Rustin, Saltburn, and The Killer vie for the top spot. The Score - Animated Film group includes Elemental, Migration, Teenage Kraken, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Sci-Fi and Fantasy enthusiasts will delight in the Score – Sci-Fi / Fantasy Film category, which features nominees like Barbie, The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes, Asteroid City, Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, The Creator, and The Marvels.

In recognition of a lifetime of remarkable contributions to the world of music, composer and songwriter Marc Shaiman will receive the Outstanding Career Achievement Award at this year's HMMA event.

The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) stands as a preeminent awards organization, honoring the exceptional achievements of composers, songwriters, and music supervisors in the creation of original music, both songs and scores, for visual media. These works include contributions to films, TV series, and video games. Notably, HMMA nominations often align with the Golden Globes, Oscars, GRAMMYs, and EMMYs, which follow in the awards season. The HMMA ceremony, held exclusively for industry insiders, is renowned for its captivating live music performances and tributes to esteemed figures in the industry. Past HMMA recipients who have gone on to claim Oscar glory include Billie Eilish and FINNEAS for No Time to Die, Hans Zimmer for Dune, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste for Soul, Hildur Guðnadóttir for Joker, Ludwig Goransson for Black Panther, and Alexandre Desplat for The Shape of Water, in addition to numerous tracks from Judas & the Black Messiah, La La Land, A Star is Born, and more.

For consideration, score submissions incorporate up to 15 minutes of music in sync with the visual media. The HMMA's selection committees include distinguished journalists and members of notable entertainment award voting bodies, such as the Academy Awards, GRAMMYs, Golden Globes, and Emmys.
