Convention - PGW 2023: the show invites families to a playful adventure with PGW junior

By Mulder, 27 october 2023

Every year, Paris Games Week is an event that transcends generations, and for its 2023 edition, from November 1 to 5, this famous French celebration of video games is once again opening the doors to its PGW Junior area, specially designed for young gamers and their families.

In the aisles of Paris Games Week, there's no denying that video games are a leisure activity that knows no age boundaries. The figures speak for themselves: 93% of 10-17 year-olds and 89% of 15-24 year-olds play, while 69% of adults (aged 18 or over) and 49% of seniors claim to be gamers. Today's parents, having grown up with video games, are well aware of their family nature, and 69% of them play occasionally with their children, an increase of almost 6 points in one year. According to 64% of these parents, playing together is an opportunity to share pleasant family moments, up 8 points on 2022.

The PGW Junior stand, which celebrates children's passion for video games while satisfying the nostalgia of parents and grandparents, occupies a 400 m² space entirely dedicated to families. In a friendly and inclusive setting, visitors will be able to try out a varied catalog of PEGI 3, 7 and 12-rated games, on popular consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC. Tournaments will be held throughout the week, with prizes up for grabs. On Saturday November 4, inter-family tournaments will invite the different generations to gather around the games.

Among the games playable on the PGW Junior stand are titles such as Asterix & Obelix Baffle Them All 2 (Microids), Dino ranch - rescue mission (Microids), Dolphin spirit - ocean mission (Microids), Jumanji wild adventures (Bandai Namco Entertainment), The Smurfs 2 - prisoner of the green stone (Microids), The Sisters 2 - network stars (Microids), Mario + the Raving Rabbids: sparks of hope - Rayman in the phantom show (Ubisoft), Paw patrol world - la pat'patrouille (Bandai Namco Entertainment), peppa pig : aventures autour du monde (Bandai Namco Entertainment), Riders republic - skate edition (Ubisoft), and The lapins crétins : party of legends (ubisoft).

The responsible use of video games within the family is essential, and 67% of parents who buy video games are familiar with the PEGI rating system, which is crucial for choosing age-appropriate games for their children. What's more, 94% of parents are aware of parental control systems, and 45% use them.

To support this responsible practice, the PGW Junior stand is partnering with the PédaGoJeux collective, which since 2008 has been helping families to understand the issues surrounding video games, from choosing appropriate games to regulating screen time, applying parental controls and playing together as a family. Throughout the show, members of PédaGoJeux will be on hand at the PGW Junior area to answer parents' questions and offer fun activities such as family quizzes, or more serious activities such as video game eye tests. A dozen animators will also accompany visitors around the gaming terminals, ready to answer any questions families may have and guide parents in their children's video gaming activities.
