On July 10, 2023, La Poste (France) will issue a collector of 4 colorful pop stamps featuring the film Barbie. This collector of 4 postage stamps featuring Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken) will accompany the film's theatrical release on July 19, 2023. Barbie is a directed by Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach. It is based on Mattel's eponymous line of fashion dolls and is the first live-action adaptation of the franchise after several computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming films. The film stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken respectively, with a supporting cast including Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman and Kate McKinnon.

They star America Ferrera (End of Watch, Dragons), Kate McKinnon (Bombshel, Yesterday), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim, Juno), Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War, 65), Issa Rae (The Photograph, Insecure), Rhea Perlman (Matilda), and Will Ferrell (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby). The film also features Ana Cruz, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education), Scott Evans (Grace and Frankie), Jamie Demetriou (CRUELLA), Connor Swindells (Sex Education), Sharon Rooney (Dumbo, Jerk), Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), and Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren (The Queen).

Greta Gerwig directed Barbie from a script she co-wrote with Oscar-nominated director Noah Baumbach (Marriage story, The Squid and the Whale), based on the Barbie character created by Mattel. The film is produced by Academy Award nominee David Heyman (Marriage story, Gravity), Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Ynon Kreiz, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers. Greta Gerwig is joined by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (The Irisman, Silence, Brokeback Mountain), six-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Sarah Greenwood (Beauty and the Beast, Anna Karenina), cinematographer Nick Houy (Little Women, Lady Bird), Oscar-winning cinematographer Jacqueline Durran (Litle Women, Anna Karenina), visual effects supervisor Glen Pratt (Paddington 2, Beauty and the Beast), music supervisor George Drakoulias (White Noise, Marriage Story) and Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel).

The film was announced in 2009 by Universal Pictures with Laurence Mark as the original producer, but development began in April 2014 when Sony Pictures acquired its rights. After multiple changes in writers and directors and the casting of two different actresses to play the title character, Sony lost the rights, which were then transferred to Warner Bros. Pictures. Robbie was cast in 2019 and also serves as a producer under the LuckyChap Entertainment banner she created, alongside Mattel Films and Heyday Films. Gerwig has been confirmed to direct and co-write with Baumbach in 2021. Gosling and the rest of the cast were announced in early 2022, and filming began in March in England, finishing in July.

Filming began in March 2022 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England, with director of photography Rodrigo Prieto. The costume designer is Jacqueline Durran, who previously collaborated with Gerwig on Little Women (2019). Filming was completed on July 21, 2022. Alexandre Desplat was confirmed to score the film in early September 2022, who previously worked with Gerwig on Little Women (2019). Despite fans' expectations that the popular song Barbie Girl "by the pop group Aqua would appear in the film, it has been reported that the song does not appear in the film as stated by a manager of the group.

Barbie is scheduled to be released in the United States and United Kingdom on July 21, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
