Movies - Dune: part two: discover the new trailer

By Mulder, 29 june 2023

The saga continues! Award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve tackles Dune: Part II, a new chapter in Frank Herbert's masterpiece, with an international cast. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film is the long-awaited sequel to DUNE, which will win six Oscars in 2021.

The new opus brings together actors already featured in DUNE as well as newcomers, including Oscar-nominated Timothée Chalamet (Wonka, Call me by your name), Zendaya (Spider-Man: no way home, Malcom & Marie, Euphoria), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: impossible - dead reckoning), Josh Brolin Avengers: endgame, Harvey milk), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (Elvis, Once upon a time... in Hollywood), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (Black Widow, The Daughters of Dr. March), Oscar nominee Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy saga, Thor : Love and Thunder), Oscar-nominated actor Christopher Walken (Journey to the Edge of Hell, Hairspray), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences, Lady Bird), Léa Seydoux (James Bond saga, Future Crimes), Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma mia! saga, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Assassin's Creed) and Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Being the Ricardos).

Denis Villeneuve directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts, based on the novel by Frank Herbert. The film is produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Villeneuve, Tanya Lapointe and Patrick McCormick, while Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert are executive producers.  Kevin J. Anderson was artistic consultant. Denis Villeneuve reteams with his Dune collaborators such as Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser, Oscar-winning set designer Patrice Vermette, Oscar-winning editor Joe Walker, Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Jacqueline West, and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Location scouting began on July 4, 2022 at the Brion tomb in Altivole, Italy, over a two-day period. Principal photography was scheduled to start on July 21 in Budapest, Hungary, but began earlier, on July 18. The film was shot entirely with IMAX-certified digital cameras, and new locations and sets were used "to avoid repetition". In October 2022, Chalamet interrupted filming to attend the premiere of Bones and All (2022). In November 2022, production moved to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Pugh completed his scenes later that month. Filming ended on December 12, 2022. The romantic scenes between Paul and Chani were mainly shot in remote locations in Jordan during the golden hour. Scenes were often filmed as quickly as possible, with a window of just one hour.

A trailer for Dune: Part II was shown at Warner Bros.' CinemaCon presentation on April 27, 2023. On May 2, 2023, the first images of the actors in their roles were posted online, accompanied by a presentation poster. The trailer was released the following day. Chalamet and Zendaya were invited to discuss and promote the film at a Warner Bros. presentation at CineEurope on June 21, 2023. A second trailer was released on June 29, 2023.  The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and will be released exclusively in theaters on November 1, 2023 in France and November 3 in the U.S.
