This morning, Hasbro announced the all-new Star Wars: The Black Series Commander Appo and Star Wars: The Black Series Darth Vader (Duel’s End) figures inspired by their appearances in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series! Appo comes with 3 accessories while Darth Vader features premium battle-damaged deco inspired by his climactic duel against the titular Jedi toward the end of the series. Both figures are available to preorder on 7/14 exclusively at Target.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a miniseries created specifically for the streaming platform Disney+. It is an integral part of the Star Wars franchise and features Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the main character, Obi-Wan Kenobi, from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The story takes place a decade after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) and revolves around Kenobi's mission to rescue Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair), who has been kidnapped by the Galactic Empire. This quest leads to a dramatic confrontation between Kenobi and his former apprentice, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen).
Originally conceived as a spin-off film with a screenplay by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, the project was later reimagined as a limited series due to the underwhelming performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). In August 2019, McGregor's return to the role was officially confirmed, and Deborah Chow was hired as the director a month later. The series faced delays when production, initially scheduled to begin in July 2020, was halted in January of the same year due to Lucasfilm's dissatisfaction with the scripts. In April 2020, Joby Harold was brought on board to rewrite the series and serve as the showrunner. The executive producers include Chow, McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan. Additional casting took place in March 2021, with actors such as Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones, and Christensen reprising their roles from the prequel trilogy. Filming commenced in Los Angeles in May 2021, utilizing StageCraft video wall technology, and concluded by September. The series features an original score by Natalie Holt, with the "Obi-Wan Theme" composed by renowned Star Wars film composer John Williams and adapted by William Ross.
