Convention - SDCC 2023 :  Funko Expands Funkoville and Introduces Blockbuster Rewind Exhibit

Funko, the renowned collectibles company, is seizing the opportunity created by major studios' absence at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) by doubling the size of its popular Funkoville booth. The expanded setup aims to accommodate the company's recent acquisitions and provide an enhanced experience for fans.

Last year's Funkoville booth garnered attention with its immersive small-town Main Street concept, featuring various storefronts dedicated to different Funko toy lines and brands. In line with the theme, this year's notable addition is Blockbuster Rewind, a faux video store designed to promote Funko's latest line of VHS-packaging themed collectibles.

Funkoville will now encompass larger areas dedicated to Funko Games, Loungefly, and Mondo, the poster company acquired by Funko in June 2022. The booth's footprint is expected to be twice the size of the previous year, offering visitors a more extensive and engaging experience.

The news of Funko's expanded presence comes amid recent controversies surrounding the company. Environmentalists criticized Funko for disposing of unsold surplus stock worth over $30 million in landfills a few months ago. Additionally, Funko faced backlash from collectors and artists for firing multiple Mondo leaders to prioritize increased production as a Funko affiliate.

The reaction to Funko's amplified presence at SDCC 2023 remains uncertain, as the convention evolves with the absence of major studios. Nonetheless, the event promises to be intriguing for attendees, providing a captivating experience beyond the usual industry news and announcements.

SDCC 2023 will be held at the San Diego Convention Center from Thursday, July 20, to Sunday, July 23. Funkoville's booth, numbered #5341, will be open to all attendees. Alongside the booth, Funko will host the much-anticipated Funko Fundays, following a summer camp theme, which has garnered significant interest from fans.

Funko's commitment to enhancing fan experiences and their expanded Funkoville booth indicate that SDCC 2023 will be a vibrant event, offering fans unique opportunities to immerse themselves in their favorite fandoms.
